The Basic Needs Department of the Long Beach Community College District is seeking qualified individuals for a current opportunity as the Basic Needs Coordinator. The incumbent is responsible for student and program advocacy, outreach and recruitment, and administrative functions. The Coordinator is responsible for providing day-to-day organizational and technical coordination of programs and services organized through the Basic Needs Program area. This position provides some administrative coverage for the department; specific duties may differ by assignment and responsibilities will vary depending on the types of student groups, facilities and student events/activities that are delegated. We are looking for someone who has a Bachelor's degree in education, social work, human services, psychology, social sciences or a closely related field and two (2) years of progressively responsible experience working in an educational environment or public program.

AT-A-GLANCE POSITION INFORMATION

• Type of position: Full time (40 hours/week)
• Position Status: Permanent
• Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00 am - 5:00 pm
• Location: Will support both campuses, but could be located at either the Liberal Arts Campus (LAC) or Pacific Coast Campus (PCC)
• Salary: Range 30 $5,095.09 - $6,274.73
• Eligibility list: Will be valid for 12 months once approved or ratified by the Personnel Commission. We reserve the right to use the established eligibility list for vacancies (permanent and temporary) in this classification as well as related classifications.
• Advanced salary placement: Generally, new employees start at the first step on the salary schedule. Advanced salary placement may be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, supports the College’s programs, activities, and services for students experiencing basic needs insecurities of food, housing, transportation, and clothing. Provides students, staff, and others with specialized information, services, training, and assistance related to students’ holistic well-being including food, housing, clothing, mental health, academic and career services with referrals to on- and off-campus resources. Supports with campus and community organizations to obtain resources for students and to promote student success, retention, and completion by removing barriers to their education; and performs a full range of complex program support and clerical assistance duties in support of the basic needs program area; and related duties as assigned.

Qualification Section:

Education, Training and Experience: Bachelor’s degree in education, social work, human services, psychology, social sciences or a closely related field and two (2) years of progressively responsible experience working in an educational environment or public program; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Licenses; Certificates; Special Requirements:
May require a valid California driver's license and the ability to maintain insurability under the District’s vehicle insurance policy.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS FOR THIS POSITION:

Meeting the minimum requirements of the position does not guarantee advancement in the selection process. Candidate qualifications will be assessed to determine those who meet and exceed requirements, and are deemed most competitive amongst the applicant pool to proceed.

• If you participate in and fail any examination segment, you must wait a period of 90 days (~3 months) to test again for the same classification.

Selection Process:

The following examination segments are pass/fail and may be utilized during the selection process:

• screening of the applicant's training, background, and experience
• scored evaluation of responses on a supplemental application/ subject matter expert (SME) review. *** Please answer each question thoroughly as they will be read and scored by SMEs***
• in-person or online:
  1. written examination(s)
  2. qualifications appraisal oral examination
  3. performance examination
  4. technical oral examination
     (the above will be scored on a job-related basis)

Test parts are determined by the size and competitiveness of the candidate pool.

Only the most highly qualified candidates will be invited to continue in the examination process. Successful candidates who pass all parts of the examination process will be placed on the eligibility list in order of their relative merit as determined by these competitive examinations.
