Job Abstract

Custodian responsibilities include (but not limited to):

• Ensuring spaces are prepared for the next day by taking out trash, tidying furniture and sanitizing all surfaces. If tables and countertops in the classrooms are not clean, please do so and notify the director.
• Sweeping and mopping floors, vacuuming carpets
• Sanitize door knobs, handles, high traffic areas, office doors, gates, etc…
• Washing and sanitizing toilets and sinks and restocking disposables
• Clean mirrors and office doors daily (windows as needed)
• In kitchens wipe/sanitize countertops, mop floor, clean sinks, take out trash, wipe down refrigerator
• Maintain outer premises / clean entrances / remove spider webs on buildings
• Perform maintenance and minor repairs (replacing broken switches, fixing door handles, minor leaks etc.) Report to the director.
• Report major damages
• Secure facilities after operating hours by locking doors, closing windows, closing parking lot gate
• Undertake occasional custodial tasks (lifting heavy items, moving chairs etc.)
• Be able to work with others and be a team player
• Keeping the school tidy and as clean as possible is the overall responsibility of the custodian

The skills required to be a custodian include reading comprehension skills, coordination skills, oral comprehension skills, and equipment selection skills. It is important to be able to read instructions for cleaning certain surfaces and fixtures. It is also important to have oral comprehension skills to be able to follow verbal cleaning instructions. Equipment selection skills are useful in selecting the proper tools for each cleaning surface and fixture. It is also helpful to have manual dexterity, flexibility and trunk strength when moving heavy furniture, lifting, and arranging things.

• Child Abuse Index Clearance
• Pest Management Certificate
• VIRTUS training
• Driver’s License or California ID
• Proven experience as custodian or in a similar role is a plus
• Knowledge of use and maintenance of industrial cleaning equipment and appliances is a plus
• Knowledge of safe disposal of chemical liquids and other hazardous components
• Attention to detail and conscientiousness
• Must be able to lift 25 lbs.

Wage Range
The rate of pay offered to the selected candidate is based on internal pay policy and budget. New hires are commonly paid at the minimum of the wage range or within the lower part of the range. We consider a number of factors when making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, skill sets, experience, training and other department needs.
