The Underwriting Consultant role will be responsible for assessing and pricing the financial risk associated with large group, fully insured prospects and/or fully insured renewing customers in the West Region market with the purpose of setting premiums rates.
Youll enjoy the flexibility to work remotely * from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Will be Underwriter on strategic accounts West Region team working on large fully insured clients
- Understand and apply appropriate mathematical formulas to determine rates, assess risk and financial impact
- Interpret claim reports to properly determine rating actions
- Analyze pricing recommendation to determine whether pricing meets profitability goals
- Evaluate and recommend network solutions, alternative pricing options and plan design changes based on economic analysis and current trends
- Maintains knowledge of market trends, competitiveness compared to other carriers and/or industry changes
- Ensures compliance with documented procedures and adheres to regulatory guidelines
- Presents information effectively with internal and external stakeholders and can provide explanations with limited intervention by management
- Anticipates customer needs and proactively develops solutions to solve them
- Serve as key resource on complex and/or critical issues with an ability to perform conceptual analyses

Required Qualifications:
- 2+ years of experience in healthcare underwriting for any variety of products: PPO, HMO, self-funded, fully-insured, group or individual OR similar experience in financial / risk analysis / economics
- Intermediate or higher level of proficiency with MS Office suite (including Word and PowerPoint)
- Proficient Microsoft Excel Skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working with 100+ lives fully insured customers
- Experience with multi-line underwriting a plus (i.e., Specialty lines of business)
- Excellent communication skills, both orally and in writing
- Ability to exhibit capacity to perform advanced duties related to forecasting and portfolio analysis

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with al minimum wage laws as applicable.
