Job Abstract

Job Summary:

The Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse in the Transition program obtains didactic classroom and hands on skills training enhanced with a clinical preceptorship.  The nurse will be responsible for independently utilizing the nursing process to safely, therapeutically and efficiently care for women before, during and after delivery of the baby based on HMNMH’s policies, procedures and all regulatory requirements.  Responsible for ensuring that the nursing as well as the emotional needs of the patient are adequately met throughout the entire birthing process.

Licensure and Certification:

• Current CA RN license
• Current BLS, and ACLS provider cards
• NRP provider card within 6 months of starting program

Education:

• Associate’s degree in Nursing (ASN) required
• Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN) strongly preferred

Experience:

• Minimum of one (1) year of acute care RN experience

Knowledge and Skills:

• Circulation in C-Section recovery room experience within 6 months of starting program
• Knowledge of Model Hospital initiatives with supporting education documentation within 6 months of starting program

Physical Demands – Patient Care:

•  Continuous standing/walking and occasional/intermittent sitting.
• Continuous use of bilateral upper extremities in fine motor activities requiring fingering, grasping, and forward reaching between waist and shoulder level to handle/operate medical equipment/devices.
• Frequent reaching above shoulder level and overhead.
• Frequent forward bending, twisting, squatting and kneeling; occasional climbing.
• Occasional repositioning and transferring patients weighing up to 200 pounds between bed, chair, and gurney.
• Occasional lifting and carrying equipment weighing up to 25 pounds.
• Occasional/intermittent pushing of gurneys, wheelchairs, bed and other medical equipment over tiled and carpeted surfaces.
• Continuous use of near vision to read medical equipment such as monitoring devices and reading documents and computer screens; hearing and verbal communication to interact with patients, co-workers, and other customers.
