Job Summary
Carries out and supervises undergraduate chemistry courses. Ensures courses are conducted in compliance with all educational and safety requirements including national society approved curriculum standards; makes course enhancements as needed to strengthen course as an instructional tool.
Essential Job Duties
Classroom:
Prepares and conducts experiments for classes.
Develop lectures, demonstrations for classes.
One-on-one sessions to instruct class on key concepts and principles.
Directs class discussion to enhance learning experience.
Revises current curriculum to bring it up to date with modern methods in experimental chemistry and modern pedagogical concepts.
Evaluates the aptitude of all class participants; provides additional attention to students having difficulty with subject matter and cooperates with Dean’s office to make use of available Institute resources.
Sets grading criteria for course and reports grades; develops assignments, projects, and quizzes for reinforcing concepts and principles with student; uses additional resources to facilitate the learning process (i.e. teaching assistants, tutors, flexible office hours, guest speakers, etc.).
Supervises Graduate and Undergraduate Teaching Assistants, who instruct individual sections and perform grading.
Reviews course evaluations from students to determine strengths and weaknesses of course materials and instruction; implements changes to format, materials, and/or instruction style to improve course effectiveness.
Collaborates with professorial faculty and Chemistry Executive Officer to ensure that course work, lab experiments and instruction meet program goals and objectives.
Serve as an instructional resource to other instructional personnel.
Basic Qualifications
PhD in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering or related discipline from an accredited institution.
1 year of instructional experience, preferably in chemistry, chemical engineering, or related topics.
