SUMMARY
Housing for Health (HFH) is a program office within Health Services Administration, a division under the Los Angeles County Department of Health Services (DHS). HFH was created and put into implementation in support of the Los Angeles County Homeless Initiative recommendations in response to and in support of the County’s effort to address and combat homelessness in the communities residing within the boundaries of the County’s eight Service Planning Areas (SPAs). Our organization follows a hybrid work structure where employees work both remotely and from the office, as needed.
The County-wide Benefits Entitlement Services Team (CBEST) is a program under DHS’ HFH and provides targeted benefit advocacy services to assist individuals, who are homeless or at risk of being homeless (e.g., individuals, families, children, Veterans, etc.) who have complex health and/or behavior health conditions, high utilizers of public services in obtaining sustainable income through government programs such as Supplemental Security Income (SSI), or Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI), Cash Assistance Program for Immigrants (CAPI), and/or Veteran Disability benefits.
POSITION OVERVIEW
The Assistant Staff Analyst position (also referred to as “position”) is a time limited position for one (1) year for the Children’s Supplemental Security Income (SSI) pilot project, a special initiative of the CBEST program. The position may be extended beyond the initial one (1) year period contingent upon on-going funding.
The position will be responsible for requesting and reviewing medical records to identify 100+ potentially eligible dependent children to assess their likely eligibility for SSI. The position will also work with CBEST leadership to develop protocols and procedures for the Children’s SSI pilot and support other staff assigned to this project. The position may be required to represent the Children’s SSI project at internal and external meetings, and conduct outreach and training to referring parties.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Duties may include but are not limited to the following:
- Act as part of a multi-disciplinary team within the CBEST program to design and implement the Children’s SSI pilot project.
- Review DHS medical records of potentially eligible dependent children not in the foster care system and analyze medical history to assess for potential eligibility for SSI.
- Support the CBEST staff assigned to the Children’s SSI project with documentation and recommendations to support the completion of SSI applications.
- Support the collection and analysis of data and contribute to the evaluation of the project outcomes as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
Training and Experience: Three years or more of highly complex administrative experience in the health, housing, social services or related sectors.
Certificates/Licenses/Clearances
- A valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related functions.
- Successful clearance of a health clearance and live scan process with the County of Los Angeles.
Other Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
- Highly proficient skill set in using an array of Microsoft Office Suite software programs such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe Reader, Teams, One Note, Outlook, Publisher, etc. as well as Adobe Pro.
