Summary
Under immediate supervision, assists recreation staff in providing varied youth and adult recreation and sports programs; assists in supervising children during activities; assists at the Lomita Railroad Museum and during special events; continuously supervises and monitors participants to ensure their safety and well-being; performs a variety of clerical duties in support of program operations; and performs related work as required.

CLASS CHARACTERISTICS
This is an entry level classification in the Recreation Leader series. Incumbents in this classification receive on-the-job training, specific day-to-day direction, and are closely supervised while performing program support duties for the City’s recreation and leisure programs which includes leading groups of youth, teens, and/or adults in structured activities. Incumbents are expected to exercise routine judgment within established policies and procedures and refer more complex or difficult matters to supervisory personnel.
Examples of Duties

Follows structured curriculum and facilitates daily recreational and enrichment activities, including, but not limited to, games, sports, art, music, and crafts for program participants.
Assists with special events including promotion via distribution of promotional flyers; sets up before and cleans up after special events; performs custodial duties at parks and facilities.
When assigned to work at the Lomita Railroad Museum, welcomes visitors to the museum; collects admission; provides information to the public regarding the museum's exhibitions, hours of operation, and special events; facilitates gift shop sales; provides support for museum staff as needed.
Implements and monitors City procedures with respect to participant safety.
Resolves program issues within established guidelines; suggests program improvements.
Inspects program areas and equipment and recommends maintenance and repair as needed.
Performs general office duties, including basic cashiering, answering the telephone, greeting patrons, light typing, data entry, copying, and filing; prepares flyers, calendars, and other routine publicity; prepares routine reports of participation and activities.
Provides recreation program information to the public via phone and in person at the Recreation Office; assists participants with program registration; accepts payment for registrations; responds to patrons’ needs for assistance or information.
Maintains recreational facilities, storage sites, and other work areas in a clean and orderly condition, including securing equipment and materials at the close of the workday and performing basic custodial duties; may assist with opening, closing, and securing buildings for events.
Administers first aid and CPR, as necessary.
Maintains accurate logs and records of work performed and materials and equipment used.
Observes and complies with all City and mandated safety rules, regulations, and protocols.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
