FULLERTON JOINT UNION HIGH SCHOOL DISTRICT
CUSTODIAL AND GROUNDS WORKER LEAD
BASIC FUNCTION: Under direction of Custodial and Grounds Supervisor, supervise and participate in the duties of custodial and grounds services; maintain assigned facilities and grounds in a clean, orderly, and secure manner; perform a variety of semi-skilled construction and maintenance repair on facilities and grounds; perform general and varied grounds work and manual labor; and perform related duties as required.
EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Confer with Custodial and Grounds Supervisor regarding duties to be performed by custodial and grounds personnel; 2. Assign duties and provide work direction to custodial and grounds personnel; 3. Inspect work in progress to see that proper methods are followed and standards maintained; 4. Supervise and participate in room arrangements for activities; 5. Assist in minor repairs or replacements to heating/air conditioning, plumbing, and electrical systems, such as circuit breakers, electrical wall plates, and other minor corrections; 6. Maintain and repair school facilities involving minor carpentry work; 7. Paint over graffiti; 8. Wash and seal gym floors; 9. Operate small power and hand tools, and small power equipment such as lawn mowers, small tractors, vacuum cleaners, and other vehicles as required; 10. Install and minor repair of athletic equipment; 11. Maintain athletic fields and set up equipment needed for athletic events; 12. Assist in planting and transplanting flowers and shrubs, reseeding and fertilizing lawns, trimming bushes, and light tree trimming; 13. Requisition materials and supplies; and 14. Maintain simple records.
KNOWLEDGE OF: 1. Methods, materials, supplies and equipment used in various maintenance activities.
ABILITY TO: 1. Provide leadership and instructions to assigned personnel; 2. Make minor repairs to facilities; 3. Maintain simple records; 4. Follow verbal and written instructions; 5. Lift; and 6. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
EXPERIENCE/TRAINING/EDUCATION: 1. Graduation from high school; and 2. Three years of experience in custodial, grounds, and maintenance work.
LICENSE REQUIRED: 1. Possession of a valid State of California Class C Driver’s License.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Environment:
Indoor and outdoor environment; regular exposure to fumes, dust, and odors; subject to driving a vehicle to conduct work.
PHYSICAL ABILITIES:
Walking and standing for extended periods of time; bending at the waist; pushing and pulling cleaning equipment; lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling and moving furniture and objects weighing up to 75 pounds; climbing ladders; and reaching overhead and horizontally to replace light bulbs.
HAZARDS:
Exposure to dust and cleaning chemicals.
