JOB SUMMARY

The ideal candidate must possess prior experience assisting in the oversight, instruction, and execution of recreation/education-type programs and activities. Experience in facility management, registration/reservation software, and social media marketing is highly preferred.
Note: There is currently one (1) half-time regular vacancy. Employees in this classification work an average of 20 hours per week and receive prorated benefits in accordance with the West Hollywood Municipal Employees (WEHOME) MOU. The City's Recreation Services Division operates Sunday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Work locations include West Hollywood Aquatic and Recreation Center (ARC) and Plummer Park.

Job Summary
Performs a variety of recreation functions, including: planning, organizing and overseeing recreation and educational programs; meeting with citizens and associations to discuss programs and provide information; coordinating rental of facilities; and completing various administrative reports.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: (All responsibilities may not be performed by all incumbents.)
Plans, organizes, implements and oversees recreation and educational programs and special events, including: developing goals; surveying and researching programs; promoting programs by developing various publicity materials; meeting with citizens/associations; organizing leagues; scheduling tournaments; distributing equipment; coordinating facility use; billing participants and collecting fees; maintaining records; interpreting rules and regulations; settling disputes; teaching/facilitating classes; booking and accompanying groups on field trips; and providing first aid.
Monitors the park, park facilities and patrons, including: unlocking and locking park and facilities; inspecting facilities; enforcing rules and regulations.
Generates and monitors program budgets.
Performs customer service functions, including: answering phones and providing information; receiving and receipting fees and taking registration information; creating and distributing brochures, flyers, etc.; and completing cash reports.
Answers phone; takes messages; screens calls; determines nature and priority of calls; provides information to callers; receives citizen complaints; and directs calls and messages to appropriate staff member.
Orders and maintains equipment and program supplies; orders office and cleaning supplies.
Performs meeting and event set up and strike functions, including moving furniture and equipment and cleaning up.
IMPORTANT JOB FUNCTIONS:
Inspects locker rooms; reports safety hazards.
Disseminates a variety of information to various agencies, divisions, or departments via telephone, mail or FAX.
May serve as backup for other positions within the department.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Assist with recruiting and training part-time employees.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
Education and Experience:
High school diploma or GED (desirable)
One year of coursework from college or technical school desired; and,
One to two years of progressively responsible related experience; or
Any combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job.
Licenses and Certifications:
CPR/First Aid Certification (desirable)

While performing the essential functions of this job, the incumbent is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects; ascend and descend stairs; maintain body equilibrium to prevent falling when walking, standing, crouching, or running; move about on hands and knees; bend body downward and forward, requiring full use of the lower extremities and back muscles; reach with hands and arms; speak and hear; and push, pull and/or lift up to 10 pounds frequently and up to 50 pounds occasionally.
Working Conditions:
Work is performed in a normal office environment and at recreation facilities (parks) where there may be extreme temperatures, exposure to sun, dirt and/or dust.
The incumbent's working conditions are typically moderately loud.
Working time may require irregular hours, various shifts, weekends, holidays and/or on-call status.
