POSITION SUMMARY
Chadwick School's Performing Arts Department seeks a dynamic, energizing, and passionate Theater Teacher to lead our middle school theater program. This candidate should have relevant teaching and/or professional experience and a contagious enthusiasm for shaping an inspiring performing arts experience for students. While primarily teaching theater and musical theater classes for 6th-8th graders that meet twice a week, this role also includes overseeing a 4th-6th grade performance and two middle school productions each year. Additionally, the teacher will teach one Upper School theater course to maintain continuity across divisions. The ideal candidate will inspire students to develop a deep appreciation for theater, enhancing their skills in performance, creativity, courage, and self-expression.
Department members work closely to create a coherent learning experience that has been designed to prepare students for lifelong learning as global citizens with keen minds, exemplary character, self-knowledge, and the ability to lead. Each teacher also serves as a faculty advisor to students, participates in the life of the school outside of the classroom, and engages in professional development and learning.

ASSOCIATED RESPONSIBILITIES
- Weekly start-times will be flexible based on production commitments; there will be after-school, evening, and weekend commitments during various times of the year and, during these times, this individual will come to school later in the day. After-school production hours are included within the teacher's overall responsibilities.
- Plan and teach theatre classes as assigned, potentially including one Upper School theater class, Sixth Grade and Middle School trimester theater courses, and musical theater classes.
- Direct the middle school play during the fall semester and the middle school musical during the spring semester.
- Direct an after-school 4-6th grade musical theatre experience during the winter.
- Serve as a middle school faculty advisor to students.

- Collaborate with department members to teach a curriculum that aligns with departmental philosophy and needs.
- Apply principles of backward design (UbD) to course and unit curriculum.
- Teach using student-centered, experiential, and differentiated methods, in line with departmental and school philosophies.
- Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior required to provide an orderly and productive environment.
- Create an inclusive classroom environment of mutual respect and rapport; incorporate anti-bias practices into the classroom culture.
- Communicate promptly and professionally with students, families, and colleagues.
- Participate in department and faculty meetings.
- Attend all relevant department and faculty meetings and school events, including new faculty orientation and training throughout the year, professional development, and student orientations before school starts, back-to-school night, parent-teacher conferences, assemblies, graduation, etc.).
- Submit report card requirements and student comments as instructed and on time.
- Keep information systems up to date, including class calendars, Google Classrooms, and Upper School gradebooks.
- Cover classes for absent colleagues as requested.
- Read and follow employment policies outlined in the Employee Handbook.
- Read and follow academic policies outlined in the relevant division Handbook.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
