The Brookfield Properties Tax Department is responsible for ASC 740 reporting and all income tax filings for a private Real Estate Investment Trust ("REIT") return, its subsidiary REIT returns, corporate entities making up a consolidated taxable REIT subsidiary ("TRS") group, stand alone TRS entities, and partnerships through which the Company owns its various real estate properties.
The Senior Tax Accountant plays an important role in preparation of monthly/quarterly tax provision workpapers required under ASC 740. This includes preparation of schedules for deferred tax assets/liabilities, income tax payables and effective rate reconciliations. They will also have involvement in gathering the necessary information for tax return compliance, REIT testing preparation, tax return estimates, tax return projections, and initial review of moderate to complex returns in a timely and accurate manner.
Essential Job Functions
1. Assist with monthly/quarterly tax provisions under ASC 740 by preparing, reviewing, and consolidating tax provision workpapers. (25%)
2. Preparation and review of legal entity and consolidated deferred tax assets/liabilities, income tax payables, effective tax rate reconciliations and reconciliations of income tax provisions to income tax returns prepared by outside firm (true-ups). (25%)
3. Review Federal and state corporate and partnership income tax returns. (25%)
4. Assist in preparation of quarterly income and asset tests for the REIT and the sub-REITS and coordinating REIT property service questionnaires. (10%)
5. Interact with both internal accounting teams and external auditing personnel to obtain information, resolve tax issues, and assist in reporting of book to tax reconciliation for activity of entire company. (10%)
6. Maintain strong working relationships with external advisors and colleagues. (5%)
Education
This position requires a(n) Undergraduate (Bachelor) Degree in Accounting.
Additional degree(s) that are preferred for this position include:
Advanced (Master) Degree in Tax
Work Experience
Below is the required/preferred work experience for this position:
3 - 4 Years: Knowledge of tax provision rules under US GAAP ASC 740 (FAS 109 and FIN 48) - Required
3 - 4 Years: Corporate and partnership tax laws, regulations and other relevant authority sufficient to interpret and apply to transactions. - Required
3 - 4 Years: Advanced experience with Microsoft Excel/proficiency in tax provision software. - Required
3 - 4 Years: Strong background in tax process/systems/software - Required
3 - 4 Years: Public accounting experience/experience with real estate /REITs - Preferred
Licenses & Certifications
