Technically supports the Ultrasound Department in providing general ultrasound studies in coordination with the department's medical and technical team and in compliance with established standards
Essential Duties:
- Provides technical support in the performance of general ultrasound diagnostic studies, on pediatric to geriatric aged patients.
- Works closely with the radiologists in the performance of procedures as well as assist with the interpretive outcome of special procedures.
- Works independently with ongoing and periodic review through evaluation of results. Full-time employees are expected to take one (1) week (7 days) of call per month.
- Promotion of technologist to the next Tech Level will be considered if the technologist can: a) perform ALL studies in current tech level proficiently; and b) perform 75-100% of next tech level studies competently for at least 6 months LEVEL I: Abdominal Kidney Soft Tissue Breast Liver Retroperitoneal Pelvic Prostate Thyroid LEVEL II: All Tech I Level Studies and: Liver Transplant Kidney Transplant Transvaginal Transrectal Scrotal Joints (Musculoskeletal) LEVEL III: All Tech I plus Tech II Level Studies and: OB Amniocentesis Interventional Procedures: Ø Ultrasound Guided Biopsy Assistance Ø Ultrasound Guided Paracentesis Assistance Ø Ultrasound Guided Thoracocentesis Assistance Ø Intraoperative Ultrasound Evaluation Ø Radiofrequency Ablation/ Drainage Assistance
- Functions as a patient advocate.
- Assesses a patient's knowledge base/understanding of their diagnostic procedure.
- Educates patient/patient's family about procedure and treatment
- Provides for own professional growth regarding trends in equipment and procedures through formal and informal continuing education.
- May be required to participate in after-hours standby and call back as needed by the department.
- Assists with transportation of patients or clerical functions as needed by the department.
- Participates in department Performance Improvement work team projects.
- Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to any age-related needs of the patients served on his/her assigned unit.
- Supports continuous and ongoing customer satisfaction through the hospital-wide service excellence standards.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- Req High school or equivalent
- Req Specialized/technical training Certification of completion of a Sonography Program, with emphasis in general Ultrasound Technology.
- Req 2 years Experience performing general ultrasound studies.
- Req Demonstrates ability to effectively work with physicians, staff, and patients.
- Req Able to function independently and as a member of a team.
Preferred Qualifications:
Required Licenses/Certifications:
- Req Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider from American Heart Association
- Req Fire Life Safety Training (LA City) If no card upon hire, one must be obtained within 30 days of hire and maintained by renewal before expiration date. (Required within LA City only)
The hourly rate range for this position is $45.00 - $76.50.
