Job Summary
Applicant will apply the scientific principles of measurement, learning, and behavior combined with appropriate mental health concepts to ameliorate school-related problems and to facilitate the learning and development of children. Consult with district and school administrators and teachers concerning the development and implementation of classroom methods and procedures designed to facilitate pupil learning and to overcome learning and behavior disorders. Meet with school-based student support teams concerning appropriate learning objectives for individual pupils, possible modifications to accommodate differences in learning, and the preparation of a case study for a special education referral. Conduct psycho-educational assessment and diagnosis in accordance with state and federal requirements, including, but not limited to, case study evaluation, recommendations for remediation or special education placement, and periodic reevaluation of special education students. Conduct behavioral assessments and create Behavior Support Plans and provide training and support in the implementation of the plans. Consult with parents regarding the development of learning and adjustment processes of children, including recommendations for home support of school goals. Consult with parents and agencies regarding special education services, referral and assessment procedures, and parent and child rights. Prepare an assessment plan for pupils referred for special education. Participate in Individualized Education Program (IEP) team meetings to present findings and assist in developing the IEP. Provide psychological counseling to special education students and behavior/social skills training to special education teachers. Supervise Guidance Interns and School Psychologist interns. Successful candidate must hold a California credential authorizing service as a Psychologist, Administrative credential preferred, but not required. Experience in working with programs to serve individuals with exceptional needs; possess skills and ability to work with a wide variety of audiences; present clear and concise written and verbal communications; possess strong inter-personal skills. Candidate must possess a valid California driver’s license and must be insurable by the district’s carrier.
