SAN GABRIEL UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT
TITLE: PreSchool Special Day Class Teacher
QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Valid California teaching credential which authorizes service to instruct students from birth to age five with special needs or eligible to obtain such authorization.
2. CLAD/SDAIE Authorization preferred.
REPORTS TO: Director of Pupil Personnel or designee
SUPERVISES: Students as assigned.
JOB GOAL: To devise and implement programs for students from birth to age five with handicaps which prevent them from learning through traditional methods.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Provides a developmentally appropriate program for students consistent with federal laws and state education code requirements.
2. Works cooperatively with classroom teachers who have students in regular classes, facilitating interaction between special education and regular education program students.
3. Confers frequently with parents and professional staff members regarding the educational, social, and personal problems of such students.
4. Assists in screening, evaluating, and recommending placements of applicants in the preschool special education program.
5. Writes a detailed report on each student’s adjustment and progress as part of the yearly preliminary IEP(Individual Education Plan), submitted to parents for approval, with additions/revisions at combined meeting of parents, administrator, psychologist, and other support personnel.
6. Completes special education requirements within timelines.
7. Attends IEP team meetings.
8. Administers both standarized and non-standardized individual and group achievement tests and prepares required written assessment reports.
