Position Summary
The Zone Program Helper will work with the Zone Program Coordinator to ensure that the Zone After School Program fosters academic, creative, and athletic development in a positive and safe environment. The Zone program Helper will help in the program's daily activities, provide transportation to and from field trips, assist in daily snack service, as well as daily set-up and clean-up of program activities.
Essential Functions
Assist Zone Program Coordinator to deliver a quality learning experience.
Provide academic support and structure to youth during program.
Supervise and instruct youth in order to maintain program policies and create an effective, healthy, and safe environment at all times.
Participate in leadership, planning, and execution of enrichment programming.
Individually lead and manage large groups of youth effectively.
Lead and support Zone After School program volunteer tutors effectively.
Establish appropriate boundaries to initiate and build healthy mentoring relationships with students.
Maintain positive working relations with other staff, Salvation Army representative, volunteers, parents and children.
Transport students on field trips, camp, and other outings as needed.
Support and uphold all Zone After School program policies.
Clean up at the end of the day and set-up for the next day’s activities.
Observe children; recording observations on how to better serve each child and family.
Responsible for adhering to all policies and procedures and reporting for Protect The Mission.
Support The Salvation Army’s Christian mission and philosophy.
Report any suspected child abuse matters immediately to your immediate supervisors.
Other duties as assigned.
Working Conditions
Ability to walk, stand, bend squat climb, kneel and twist on an intermittent or sometimes continuous basis. Ability to be able to lift up to 50lbs. Ability to grasp, push, pull objects such as file cabinet drawers and reach overhead. Ability to operate computer, fax and telephone.
Minimum Qualifications
Must pass criminal background check to be eligible for employment.
Must be 21 years of age or older.
At least 2 years’ college experience, preferably in education or related field or 3 years working experience after school/tutoring programs.
Ability to keep organizational and participant confidentiality.
Professionalism in relation to participants, colleagues, and community contacts.
Proficiency in working with basic office computing systems and equipment.
Skills, Knowledge & Abilities
Current Driver’s License and clean MVR check.
Must be supportive of The Salvation Army’s Christian mission and philosophy and complete required Salvation Army trainings.
The capacity to work as a team member and independently.
Must possess flexibility, effective leadership, conflict resolution, and communication skills.
