POSITION SUMMARY: The Assistant Director of Experiential Programs executes the Pomona College Internship Program (PCIP) as well as the PCIP Summer Experience Program, and strategically manages experiential programs including on-campus student employment, campus fellowships, and micro-internships.
The Assistant Director will support the data manager, creating and administering survey instruments and analyzing experiential program data, in collaboration with senior leadership, that meet the assessment needs (both quantitative and qualitative) of the office. This role also works directly with students, providing advising appointments and drop-in availability to assist them with career-related topics.

Manage and execute the Pomona College Internship Program (PCIP) and the PCIP Summer
Experience Program of the Career Development Office (CDO).
Hold information sessions for prospective and hiring orientations for current program participants.
Oversee and manage the selection process for students to participate in both programs.
Lead the donor-funded internship scholarship process, organize selection committees, and manage communication with applicants. Establish and maintain strong relationship with Major Gifts to communicate funding needs and projections for PCIP Summer Experience.
Maintain regular communication (e.g. timely emails and meetings) as necessary with interns and internship employers to facilitate successful internship completion.
Source and label high quality unpaid internships on Handshake for students to consider for PCIP.
Ensure that employers and students complete contracts and learning agreements.
Collect and report internship program data.
Collaborate with faculty and Academic Affairs on joint programming efforts (e.g. symposium) and conduct presentations to faculty and classes about participating in PCIP or PCIP Summer Experience Program.
Maintain detailed records of work, the history of the internship program and its resources.
Oversee Career Development Office’s role in promoting campus employment and work/study opportunities; serve on campus committee with Human Resources and Office of Financial Aid to deliver campus employment program.
Support staff and faculty in setting up their Handshake accounts and posting jobs utilizing the “Pomona College Student Employment” employer page on Handshake
Host an on-campus recruiting fair each early Fall collaborating with Pomona College departments hiring students as well as additional 7C departments open to hiring Pomona College students
Coordinate campus-wide celebration for National Student Employee Appreciation Week
Oversee Campus Fellowships for Experiential Learning, a program designed to allow students to propose an independent project to develop experience in their field.
Manage relationship with Parker Dewey and promote and develop micro-internships for students at Pomona College
Stay up-to-date on internship legal issues and trends in the career development field.
Participate in professional associations related to internship and experiential education.
Continuously benchmark programs and implement creative and innovative improvements.
Attend relevant conferences and webinars for professional development
Develop programs for assigned career teams as well as general skill building workshops.
Advise students through appointments and drop-ins on career-related topics such as résumé and cover letter development; job and internship searches; connecting with employers; and understanding what employers are looking for in the hiring process. Support students with their exploration and applications for further study.
Participate in CDO special events such as Orientation, Open House, and Family Weekend among others.
Perform general office duties as a member of the CDO team.
Attend and participate in all CDO and Student Affairs meetings
Update Nutshell CRM with relevant information regarding engagement with employer and/or alumni.
Maintain, update, and coordinate internship listings.
Update the Experiential Learning module in Handshake.
Enter appointments, drop-ins, emails, and phone interactions with alumni and students into Handshake.
Create an annual report that summarizes each year’s internship activities.
Maintain an open-door policy in support of office cohesion.
Support other staff in their functional areas by providing ideas, input, and support through attendance.
Manage Outlook calendar and scheduling.
QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree is preferred. A valid driver’s license is required or equivalent means of reliable transportation to off-site meetings and events. A minimum of 2 years of directly related experience with internship programs, experiential education, and/or student advising, ideally at the college level, is required. Experience with college career services, employer and graduate school relations, and internship program management is preferred.

ADDITIONAL POSITION DETAILS: Regular, full-time, exempt position. The salary for this role is between $67,000-$73,175 per hour, with a competitive benefits package. The specific factors that the organization will consider when offering a salary to an individual will include education, training, prior experience, and performance in prior role. All staff positions are ineligible for visa or permanent resident card sponsorship. As a California employer, Pomona College requires all employees to be residents of California.
REQUIRED HOURS: The regular hours for this full-time position are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday – Friday. Occasional weekend and evening work hours will be required. Travel may be required for out-of-town conferences and events 2-3 times a year. Regular hours may vary due to needs of the College or division.
