The Hiniker Lab in the Department of Pathology seeks a Research Technician I position to join its research team. Under direct supervision of a postdoctoral scholar, the technician will assist in various research projects to understand LRRK2 cellular biology and the cellular and molecular mechanisms of Parkinson’s disease pathogenesis. The position will require knowledge of basic cell and molecular biology techniques (especially mammalian cell culture and western blot), excellent organizational skills, and ability to assist with organizational tasks to maintain lab operations. There is the occasional need for flexible work hours to meet the demands of the experimental protocols and processing timelines.
Responsibilities:
- Under direct supervision, carry out experimental protocols using basic cell and molecular biology techniques including mammalian cell culture and western blot
- Maintain accurate records of experiments and laboratory protocols
- Prepare commonly used lab reagents and chemical solutions.
- Maintain general lab organization and compliance with university environmental health and safety standards.
- Stock, maintain, and order laboratory supplies as needed.
- Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
Shift: Monday - Friday, 9:00am - 5:30 pm
Hourly range:
The hourly rate range for this position is $21.07 - $27.63. When extending an offer of employment, the University of Southern California considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, federal, state and local laws, contractual stipulations, grant funding, as well as external market and organizational considerations.
Minimum Education: High school or equivalent, Combined experience/education as substitute for minimum education
Minimum Experience: 6 - 12 months, Combined education/experience as substitute for minimum experience
Minimum Field of Expertise: Ability to follow detailed instructions, oral and written
Preferred Qualifications:
- BS/BA in a biology-related field
- 1+ years experience in basic molecular biology techniques including mammalian cell culture and western blot
