The Los Angeles Community College District (LACCD) announces an opening for a Dean of Student Services at Los Angeles City College. Los Angeles City College (LACC), with an enrollment of approximately 18,000, is the oldest of the nine colleges in the LACCD, the largest community college district in the world. The campus is in the heart of Los Angeles, minutes from Hollywood and Downtown and conveniently adjacent to major freeway arteries and public transportation including the MTA and Metro. JOB DESCRIPTION:
LACC is seeking to fill a Dean position whose primary duties will be to coordinate all aspects of the Office of Student Life, Veterans, Student Basic Needs, Student Discipline, Behavioral Intervention Team, and oversee health services in collaboration with Wesley Heath. The position may also supervise other student support areas as assigned. The Dean of Student Services reports to the Vice President of Student Services.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Applicants must meet minimum requirements as an administrator by:
· A Master’s degree from an accredited college or university;
· Completion of one year of full-time formal training, internship or leadership experience reasonably related to the administrative assignment; AND
· Sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
GENERAL REQUIREMENTS:
A medical certificate indicating fitness to engage in administrative work is required for new employees at the applicant’s expense prior to employment.
Eligibility Requirement
Pursuant to LACCD Board of Trustee's Policy 2900, all students and employees must be fully vaccinated or have an approved exemption. LACCD employees are required to provide their vaccination status in compliance with the LACCD Board of Trustees’ policy. SALARY AND BENEFITS:
The basic salary range is from: $166,752 to $195,792 annually. The selected candidate will be allocated within the salary range according to previous salary. Employee benefits include 15.5 paid holidays annually, 15-24 days paid vacation annually depending on length of District service, medical/hospital, dental and vision care plans and a $50,000 group life insurance policy.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Provides organizational leadership for the Office of Student Life, Child Development Center, Veteran’s Resource Center, Student Discipline, BIT, Student Basic Needs, RESJ ,and the Health Center, including the selection and assignment of faculty and staff.
· Supervises and evaluates counselors and classified personnel working under the areas of responsibility.
· Serve as a member of the student services leadership team; providing leadership for student services, developing and maintaining effective programs, and complying with applicable federal, state, and local rules and regulations.
· Supervise, Evaluate, and Assign all faculty/counselors for the Child Development Center and Basic Needs Program.
· Supervises Health Services and coordinates with Wesley Health to provide health services and mental health counseling.
· Supervise the Race, Equity, & Social Justice (RESJ) Center, faculty coordinator, and staff leads, and support change in the curriculum to support, diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility.
· Oversee Certification for all LACC Veterans programs.
· Serve as the LACC Disciplinarian responsible for student conduct.
· Assist in the development of a student internship program working with various academic departments advisory committees and faculty to ensure a braiding of student college and career goals are aligned with campus engagement.
· Supervises the Associated Student Government program, including the Inter-Club Council in working with faculty advisors to promote student engagement and wrap-around student support services.
· Ensure the onboarding of students to various programs, services and academic programs promoting a case management approach.
· Responsible for Student Basic Needs, which includes weekly food distributions to students.
· Promote the needs of various student populations such AB540, Dreamers, Umoja, Puente, Foster Youth, and students with food insecurity and homelessness.
· Ensure partnerships with Cal-Fresh, SNAP, Food Banks to develop food pantry for students and integrate into student support services case management.
· Chair the Behavioral Intervention Team (BIT) and collaborate with the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health to ensure students referred by faculty or staff are assessed to risk and provided necessary health and mental health services.
· Work collaboratively with academic and student services departments to follow-up on referrals and link academic programs and services so that educational planning, advisement, and guidance is followed up with holistic approach.
· Provide general supervision for the planning, implementation, coordination and evaluation of the services and activities of assigned areas.
· Develop Student Learning/Program Learning Outcomes, Assessments, and Program Reviews/Resource Requests for all areas of supervision.
· Manage the assigned program budget for the Office of Student Life, Child Development Center, Veteran’s Resource Center, ASG and authorize all expenditures, assume responsibility for appropriate utilization of funds, and establish a procedure for timely process and approval of expenditures, monitor detailed time payroll, manage the budget allocated for activities ensuring all established project fiscal policies are followed, and provide monthly budget summaries and assure compliance with district negotiated agreements.
· Assume leadership of, or serve on, shared governance committees and task forces as required, and represent unit assigned and/or college and/or district at meetings of the community, other educational institutions, and agencies as required. Provide information to shared governance committees that include, but not limited to Academic Senate, Department Chairs, Program Review, Accreditation, etc.
· Other related duties as assigned.
· May serve as the evening or Saturday administrator as part of an occasional assignment.
· Assists with the coordination of grievances and Title IX concerns.
· Performs other duties as assigned within the scope of the position.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
· Three (3) years of formal experience, training, internship, or leadership experience reasonably related to the administrative assignment.
· Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, and experience with leading presentation using appropriate technological resources.
· Demonstrated leadership, collaboration and facilitation skills.
· Demonstrated success in budgeting, planning, and management systems.
· Commitment to the philosophy and value of institutional collaborative governance based upon a genuine sharing of responsibility.
· Knowledge of higher education in community colleges, including the mission of the California Community Colleges; community college instructional and student service programs, rinciples, practices, and procedures; budget preparation and control; State reporting systems and procedures; Curriculum development and course articulation.
