What You'll Do:
As a key member of the Life Science team, this role enables a newer “business within a business” to help the world Live Better and increase Lubrizol’s technology and presence into the global marketplace of Beauty and Home products. As the Business Manager for our global Finished Goods initiative, your role is to lead a team and deliver accelerated and sustainable growth by leveraging your business and commercial acumen, leadership skills, and proven abilities to grow new business ventures within our Life Science organization. There is an existing smaller base business in place, and the role is designed initially as both a player and coach. You will lead commercial business development directly within North America while simultaneously serving as the global business leader with direct reports. In this role, you work closely with the global Life Science leadership team to refine and execute the business strategy and required systems, prioritize and enable new opportunities cross functionally, plan for the required operational footprint to execute today while considering the future, and manage the existing team, providing the support needed to be successful. This position is designed to develop into a full time business leadership role with executive visibility. You will also grow the team and define the need for supporting resources under your direct leadership.
What We're Looking For:
- In your business development (player) role for North America, collaboratively work with an existing commercial team as a sales champion for your business. Conduct prospecting and new business development activities, ensuring a sufficient and robust opportunity pipeline exists. This provides direct market feedback to continue fine tuning the business model.
- Establish and secure strong and efficient business level operating mechanisms that deliver profitable growth based on current state. Create, manage annual operating plans and budgets for the business, global team.
- Adapt the five-year business plan and strategy to reflect/accelerate transformational growth, including opportunities to invest/add resources. This includes taking calculated risk with corresponding mitigation strategies.
- Enable your direct reports to effectively prioritize and deliver new target opportunities in consideration of fit to business model balancing effort required, risk, profitability, and costs.
- Ensure and lead effective business level cross functional stakeholder progress meetings.
- Balance collaborative inputs combined with your own independent thinking to create new ways and methods that are practical to implement. Drive efficient and clear team decision making and ensure business results follow.
- Enable increasing financial results considering both internal capabilities and by developing/leveraging external partnerships.
Skills That Make a Difference:
- Bachelor degree (business, marketing, technical, or operations), MBA preferred
- Minimum 7+ years creating meaningful results by leading cross functional teams globally
- Minimum 5+ years commercial, business development experience
- A change agent experienced in creating, designing, implementing winning business models and their related processes, ideally within an existing matrixed (complex) business
- Understanding of finished formulated products within the Beauty and/or Home care markets
- Familiarity of both B2B and B2C, knowledge of consumer packaging is very desirable
- Demonstrated financial acumen, both at strategic and tactical levels
- Executive presence, influence, and related presentation skills
- Leading, developing direct reports, influencing cross functional supporting resources
- Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills, English and Spanish
- Position is based out of Brecksville, OH, with travel up to 50%
