JOB SUMMARY:
The Process and Productivity Improvement Manager will help take Northgate to the next level of efficiency by reviewing, improving, and documenting best work methods. Using time studies, lean and six sigma concepts, this person brings service optimization to a new level. Through direct and indirect reporting relationships and through the analysis of labor system data, the Process and Productivity Manager helps influence the organization to reduce process wastes, improve flow, and attain new performance benchmarks. This is a leadership position with directly-reporting associates.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Exhibit the Core Values of Northgate Markets
- Implement a business process evaluation and best methods development program
- Develop new labor models and maintain existing ones
- Ensure alignment between labor and service goals
- Leverage resources to maximize the functions of 5s, labor management, and in-store receiving
- Coach, teach, train, and develop directly-reporting associates
- Using the lens of Lean/Six Sigma and related tools, analyze work processes
- Develop a business case for better processes and increased productivity
- Provide training, counseling and assistance to continuously improve labor model understanding at all levels of leadership
- Maintain a custom library of best methods documentation using various visual and written media
- Provide labor engineering support to new programs and new & remodeled stores
- Partner with sales team leaders to ensure new programs are understood and supported with labor appropriately
- Ensure that sales team members retain ownership for the labor model as programs are developed
- Evaluate new layouts during the store design phase to prevent waste and optimize productivity
- Recommend approaches to satisfy customer trip mission based on efficient work practices
- Evaluate the labor management system and engage with software partners to make improvements
- Continuously improve skills to deliver more value to the company with the potential to serve in increasingly responsible roles
- Spend three to four days per week “in the field” learning, documenting and improving processes
- Perform other duties as assigned
POSITION REQUIREMENTS AND CONDITIONS:
Education/Experience/Skills
- Four-year degree in industrial engineering (preferred) or equivalent experience
- Training in Lean, Six-Sigma, 5s, and/or other efficiency disciplines
- Expertise in the development of methods and labor standards
- Experience with labor systems management
- Experience with best work methods development and improvement
- Root-cause analysis skills
- Great problem-solving ability
- Analytical skills and detail orientation
- Strong people skills; ability to work with diverse teams and engage effectively
- Strong computer skills including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
- Ability to work all shifts for observational purposes
- Supermarket or restaurant/quick-service restaurant experience is required
- Bi-lingual (English and Spanish are a plus)
