The Field Engineer job family has responsibility for infrastructure/technical planning, implementation and Hardware & Operating System support activities for systems owned and managed by CommonSpirit Health. Responsibilities can vary, but will include installing new software releases, system upgrades, deploying custom code, environment changes, evaluating systems, installing patches and or updates. Responsibilities also include (on site and remote) operational support activities such as troubleshooting and resolving software & hardware related problems, managing backup and recovery activity, administering application “middleware” and technology layers, managing monitoring and alerting functions, performing capacity planning and conducting version management. Field Engineers work closely with system architects, developers, infrastructure support, database administrators and application support teams to provide end to end high quality IT support for CommonSpirit customers and alignment with CommonSpirit IT standards, controls and governance.
To be successful, individuals must possess a combination of technical, business and leadership skills as well as be a self-starter with good time management skills. This requires an understanding of customers’ business needs, processes, and functions. They also require a solid knowledge of IT infrastructure, architecture, applications development and support, networks, and computer operations. In addition, individuals working in this job family must possess excellent communication skills and the ability to influence others.

? Provides evaluation and implementation services for new products, technologies and solutions to address corporate business requirements.
? Works beyond the routine utilizing specialized knowledge and analysis of multiple variables.
? Has a comprehensive understanding and skill sets for supported platforms/products and environments.
? Effort and activities are divided between maintenance and support of existing environments, and implementation tasks.
? Project assignments can be large in scope but are typically low to medium complexity.
? Provide exceptional customer service to CommonSpirit end users, Business Stakeholders and other members of CommonSpirit ITD
? Perform daily production support activities
? Participate in team on-call rotations (approx. every 8-10 weeks)
? Perform patching and code deployments across all environments
? Participate in projects associated to the enhancement, upgrade/patching, or implementation of new or existing software solutions.
? Coordinate implementation and support efforts between Technology Infrastructure and other CommonSpirit IT teams.
? Provide oversight and facilitation of the IT change management process as it applies to the System Administration team.
? Ability to create standard operating procedures for various tasks in a clear and non-complex verbiage so non-technical support staff can clearly understand the objective
? Perform source code/versioning management function adhering to technical management guidelines
? Provide ownership of technical issues within the System Administration group
? Assist with strategic planning activities (capacity planning, process improvement, maintenance, upgrade and end-of-life planning, roadmap development)
? Conduct performance tuning and troubleshooting
? Build new test and production environments on existing or new hardware as required.
? Assist with the design and implementation of a comprehensive monitoring and alerting process across all Technology Infrastructure platforms
? Identify automation opportunities and implement scripted solutions
? Assist with the implementation of a comprehensive and ongoing release management and planning effort
? Utilize standard tools and methodology to develop system and support performance metrics
? Perform technical mentoring and cross training with other team members as needed
? Demonstrate a basic knowledge & expertise with CommonSpirit business processes and routines
? Ability to work in a fast paced and dynamic environment
? Provide support or deployments to projects that can be outside normal business hours.

BA or BS in Computer Science, Technology, or Business discipline or equivalent experience is required.

Minimum of 4 year of professional experience in an IT technical or infrastructure field is required.

? General knowledge of Microsoft and UNIX operating systems required
? Ability to develop and organize written documentation and procedures is required.
? Basic analytical and troubleshooting skills required
? Strong written and oral communication skills
? Fundamental knowledge of networking and security technologies such as TCP/IP, DNS, firewalls, load balancing/proxies, authentication, single-sign on required
? Basic knowledge of storage networks and technologies desired
? Basic knowledge of testing and quality assurance methodologies
? Ability to multitask in a fast paced work environment
? 5+ years of experience with Cisco Route Switch and Wireless infrastructure.
? MCP & CCNA Certification Preferred
? Experience with datacenter and MDF/IDF closet construction design (cabling, racks, power, cooling)
? Experience or understanding of Cisco Nexus platform preferred
? Experience with Cisco wireless, and moderate understanding of wireless design and coverage preferred
