About the role
The Underwriting Lead will report to the Zonal Underwriting Manager, this role will be primarily responsible to execute the geographic underwriting strategy for Retail Property. In addition, the position is responsible for attracting, managing, and developing a team of highly accomplished, driven colleagues.
What You Need to Know:
- Manages all Underwriting within a region(s).
- Within region(s), establishes, implements and evaluates the production and profitability goals.
- Direct accountability for the business results of their region(s) with respect to profitability, penetration and/or volume within a specific account, segment, geographic area, product or line of business.
- In partnership with the Zonal Underwriting Manager, drive and execute the long term business strategy for zone which including all accounts for product accounts.
- Serve as a technical expert, exercising technical authority with regards to major or multiple insurance product line(s) within Retail Property.
- Partnering with the Zonal Underwriting Manager, manage annual budget process for a major or multiple insurance product line(s) within Retail Property.
- Within region(s), manage monthly forecasts for a major or multiple insurance product line(s) within Retail Property.
- In collaboration the Zonal Underwriting Manager and HR, implement tools and strategies to attract and retain top industry talent and develop high performing teams.
- Identify areas/positions within region(s) that lack sufficient bench strength, and employees who require additional skills to fill those needs; develop and execute development/training/recruiting platforms/plans to address the deficiencies.
- Establish strong relationships with zonal leadership; create mutual understanding of overall parameters and goals to drive effective execution of business model.
- Interact with all levels of Insurance community.
- Drive a culture that promotes collaboration, diversity, and inclusion.
- Oversee all underwriters within region(s) including managing and evaluating work of staff; makes decisions regarding pay, performance management, development, employment, and staffing.
What We Are Looking For:
- Minimum 7+ years of Commercial Insurance Company, Agency or Brokerage experience within Retail Property.
- Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university, preferred.
- Analytical and quantitative skills; familiarity with actuarial data.
- Knowledge of market segmentation, portfolio management, acquisition and distribution.
- Process and system skills.
- Experience with budgeting and expense control.
- Experience managing or leading a team is preferred.
