JOB SUMMARY
The Director, Security develops, manages, and maintains improving all safety and security functions and operations of the Security Department at Crypto.com Arena, ensuring the safety and security of our guests, clients, artists/athletes, and our physical venue assets, while maintaining the Arena’s reputation for having the “best practices” in the sports/live entertainment industry. Directs and leads the Security Management Team to complete objectives for all reporting personnel. Implements and ensures compliance with department objectives and policies. Oversight of the Arena Safety & Security Team and related policies.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Effectively secure and maintain the safety of all guests, employees, clients, performers, and assets at Crypto.com Arena by enforcing and regulating venue security policies and procedures through the Crypto.com Arena Security team.
- Ensure all building security systems are operating as necessary during event and non-event periods. Security systems include but are not limited to: CCTV cameras, DVR/NVR, and access control; all physical security equipment (security screening equipment); two-way radios, repeaters, and accessories.
- Prepare and maintain expenses within annual approved department budget. Research, review, and recommend equipment, materials, and supplies required for the department.
- Provide leadership, support, and guidance to team of Security Managers. Serve as a coach and mentor to improve individual performances and show personal growth to benefit the management team as a whole. Orchestrate and assist Security Managers recruit, interview, select, and train Security Officers and Supervisors according to established guidelines.
- Provide insight, guidance, and excellent service to Crypto.com Arena clients/tenants. Research, advance, suggest, and create appropriate staffing levels/event budgets, balancing client needs, financial parameters, and business objectives with the overall safety and security of the event and venue.
- Act as a Building Manager on Duty for the arena as needed/scheduled by SVP. Oversee event logistics ensuring priorities in decision-making are based on safety. Respond immediately in the event of an emergency to make key decisions and communicate with staff in emergency situations in line with EAP/BCP.
- Through the Security Managers, effectively manage team of full-time and part-time Supervisors and Officers; provide necessary leadership, training, support, and guidance. Empower managers and supervisory team to lead, coach, mentor, and discipline personnel as deemed necessary and in line with written department policies.
- Create, foster, maintain, and improve Crypto.com Arena’s reputation for excellence in venue security. Gain certification/accreditation in venue security and attend conferences/trade shows to insure that both venues are always the leaders in new technologies, procedures, and processes.
- Serve as escalation point to client/employee inquiries, concerns, and/or complaints. Prevent future issues by examining all past situations and maintaining a pro-active thought process.
- Prevent/resolve employee related issues by working in conjunction with Crypto.com Arena Human Resources, the manager/supervisor, and the employee.
- Gain certification (if not currently) as a trainer in ENCORE|LA, AVADE, and other security-oriented programs. Certified Protection Professional (CPP) candidates also preferred.
- Serve as the direct point-of-contact/liaison between government entities (LAPD/LAFD/FBI/Cal-EMA, etc) and both venues. Coordinate bi-weekly L.A. LIVE Campus Security meetings. Schedule and run payroll for off-duty LAPD officers assigned to Crypto.com Arena events. Work with Security Managers to schedule large-scale event coordination/walkthroughs with government entities.
- Oversee the coordination of annual emergency evacuation drill/exercise at both venues. Confer with Security management and building managers to develop/improve current emergency procedures and edit/update Emergency Procedures Manuals annually.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Must have a BA/BS Degree (4- year)
- 8-10 Years of related work experience in the Security field and in a leadership capacity.
- 4-6 Years Event planning and/or event execution experience in a sports/live entertainment facility.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Programs (Word, Excel, Outlook, Powerpoint) is required.
- Ability to read, listen, and communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to work under pressure, recognize problems, problem solve, and find solutions.
- Capable of working in fast-paced environment.
- Capable of supervising a staff of part-time and full-time individuals.
- Ability to multi-task and handle a variety day-to-day tasks.
- Ability to work well with fellow staff members.
- Must be able to stand/walk for long periods of time and have the ability to lift 30 lbs.
- Ability to work long irregular hours for an extended period of time as dictated by events and schedule. This will include weekend and holidays.
LICENSES and CERTIFICATIONS
- Certified Protection Professional (CCP) Accreditation (preferred)
- Bilingual in Spanish a plus, but not required
Pay Scale: $119,114 - $135,000
