Job Abstract

As an integral member of the Technology Ventures management team, this Investment Manager role is responsible for managing and expanding the Technology Ventures investment portfolio, sourcing, and evaluating new investment opportunities, coordinating the deal closing process, and providing thoughtful and strategic support to portfolio companies.  The Investment Manager works cross functionally with other managers and directors in Technology Ventures, the Accelerator and Cedars Sinai Health Ventures, senior leadership throughout the Cedars-Sinai Health System and closely with leadership in portfolio companies and other startup companies.  The ideal candidate possesses a strong background in investment banking or management consulting, with a minimum of 8 years of experience and a deep understanding of investment banking and healthcare startup operations.

Responsibilities:

• Support and help manage portfolio of investments within Cedars-Sinai Technology Ventures
• Lead follow-on investments for select companies that come through the Accelerator
• Source and evaluate new investment opportunities between Seed and Series A
• Assist with investment diligence (memos, interviews, competitive analysis, industry research) and present the findings to the Investment Committee
• Coordinate the deal closing process - legal, compliance, finance etc.
• Support portfolio companies with recruiting, fundraising, and customer prospecting
• Research emerging sub-sectors and develop investment thesis to drive new investment activity 
• Develop and maintain relationships with others in the ecosystem, including VCs, startup founders, and potential talent for startups     
• Maintain and develop internal tools for productivity and collaboration
• Oversee any new, special projects required to streamline current operations or fuel expansion
• Mentor associates/ analysts on the team to build a well-functioning team 

Minimum Qualifications:

• 8+ years of experience, with at least 3 years of analytical experience within investment banking or management consulting or a healthcare startup
• A strong understanding of financial modeling, fund raising, business development and operations in the healthcare/ life sciences space
• Ability to navigate and leverage output from various databases
• Highly organized, self-motivated, and detail-oriented 
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally with both internal and external stakeholders
• Excellent active listening skills combined with the ability to develop a nuanced point of view that can be comfortably shared and refined with other team members. 
• Strong organizational skills with excellent prioritization and task management skills

Preferred Qualifications:

• Prior experience in early stage investing or as a founding member at a venture backed startup 
• MBA, JD or a Master’s degree in a health-related discipline
• Strong, global network in healthcare innovation and investment
• Work experience across different countries & cultures
• Curiosity, passion, humor, and humility

This role is hybrid and requires an in-office presence 1-2 days a week in Los Angeles, California.
