Applied Technology Services (ATS) is an internal service organization that provides high quality technical services and expertise on an as-needed basis to all lines of business at Pacific Gas & Electric Company (PG&E). Based at PG&E’s San Ramon Technology Center, ATS is a multi-disciplinary team of approximately 130 engineers and technical personnel who perform work in the ATS San Ramon offices and laboratories, and in the field.
The Engineer role resides under the Inspection & Equipment Innovation section at ATS.
Position Summary:
The Innovation Engineer is directly responsible for leading and managing the new inspection technology program for ATS as well as other projects that may arise to support ATS’ vision to provide value high-value, innovative, proactive solutions to PG&E business units in a cost-effective way. In addition, the engineer will be assisting the senior engineers in strategic planning, managing, budgeting, communications, performance, and continuous improvement for the program. Ensure program is operating efficiently and effectively for our clients and aligns with our true north strategy.
PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity. Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed towards the middle or entry point of the range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors.?
A reasonable salary range is:
- Minimum Base Salary (Bay Area) $109,000.00
- Mid Base Salary (Bay Area) $142,000.00
- Maximum Base Salary (Bay Area) $175,000.00
Responsibilities:
- Engages with external research organizations, consortia, and academia to identify and adapt innovative solutions in the Applied Technology Services (ATS) business to improve safety, customer satisfaction, cost effectiveness, and environmental impact.
- Collaborates with internal stakeholders and subject matter experts to identify and evaluate new technology ideas and equipment, and to evaluate and operationalize promising technologies.
- Partners with and obtain buy-in from internal stakeholders and leadership to organize and prioritize projects to evaluate new inspection technologies.
- May manage project evaluation results and prepares presentations, recommendations for internal clients and/or leadership.
- Maintain an open line of communication with all stakeholders involved with the program and provide critical updates with respect to program.
- Identifies innovations and cost- reduction potential of new and existing technologies while ensuring that new project ideas are aligned with the company’s True North Strategy.
- May interface with clients regarding status of project or to collect more information. Ensure client expectations for project are met. Provide client support, as required.
- May assist in design and standardization of test plans for assignments/projects and select standards, methods and protocols. May assist in reviewing design and test plans with senior peer or supervisor.
- Support metrics development to measure the success of the program.
- Provides coaching and oversight to associate, rotational, and intern engineers.
- Carry out the job responsibilities of an ATS Engineer.
Qualifications:
- Proficiency in engineering research and testing concepts, theories, practices, methods, techniques.
- Knowledge of current and new technologies used in technical testing in area of specialty.
- Understanding of quality assurance and control concepts and practices.
- Thorough investigative and analytical problem-solving skills.
- Communication, presentation, interpersonal, and team collaboration skills.
- Basic project management and team leadership skills.
- Understanding of customer service concepts.
Minimum:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or relative work experience
- 3 years of related experience
Desired:
- 5 - 15% travel
- Master’s degree in Engineering with emphasis in a discipline related to assignments. (i.e., mechanical, civil or electrical engineering, etc.)
- Professional Engineer License
