Position: Senior Data Engineer
Job Location: 860 W. California Avenue, Sunnyvale, CA 94086
Duties: Identify possible options to address business problems within one's discipline through analytics, big data analytics, and automation. Support the development of business cases and recommendations. Own delivery of project activity and tasks assigned by others. Support process updates and changes. Solve business issues. Support the documentation of data governance processes. Support the implementation of data governance practices. Understand, articulate, and apply principles of the defined strategy to routine business problems that involve a single function. Extract data from identified databases. Create data pipelines and transform data to a structure that is relevant to the problem by selecting appropriate techniques. Develop knowledge of current data science and analytics trends. Support the understanding of the priority order of requirements and service level agreements. Help identify the most suitable source for data that is fit for purpose. Perform initial data quality checks on extracted data. Analyze complex data elements, systems, data flows, dependencies, and relationships to contribute to conceptual, physical, and logical data models. Develop the Logical Data Model and Physical Data Models including data warehouse and data mart designs. Define relational tables, primary and foreign keys, and stored procedures to create a data model structure. Evaluate existing data models and physical databases for variances and discrepancies. Develop efficient data flows. Analyze data-related system integration challenges and propose appropriate solutions. Create training documentation and train end-users on data modeling. Guide the tasks of less experienced programmers and stipulate system troubleshooting supports. Write code to develop the required solution and application features by determining the appropriate programming language and leveraging business, technical, and data requirements. Create test cases to review and validate the proposed solution design. Create proofs of concept. Test the code using the appropriate testing approach. Deploy software to production servers. Contribute code documentation, maintain playbooks, and provide timely progress updates.
Minimum education and experience required: Master's degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology or related field and 1 year of experience in data engineering, database engineering, business intelligence, or business analytics or related field; OR Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology or related field and 3 years of experience in data engineering, database engineering, business intelligence, or business analytics or related field.
Skills required: Experience with SQL, Spark, Java, Scala, and Python. Experience creating real time data streaming and processing using Kafka or Spark streaming. Experience developing data pipelines with Apache Airflow. Experience with cloud using Google Cloud Platform (GCP) or Microsoft Azure. Experience writing complex, highly optimized queries across large data sets. Experience designing and developing data cleansing routines utilizing data quality functions involving standardization, transformation, rationalization, linking, and matching. Experience performing continuous integration and deployment using Jenkins and Git. Experience with HDFS, Hive, MapReduce, Druid, Hue, Presto, and Shell Scripting. Experience with data modeling, data analysis, and data testing. Employer will accept any amount of experience with the required skills.
Salary Range: $138,911/year to $234,000/year. Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance incentives.? Additional compensation for certain positions may also include: Regional Pay Zone (RPZ) (based on location) and Stock equity incentives.
