Echostar has an exciting opportunity for a Vice President - Accounting, Hughes located at our office in Germantown, MD. This position will lead a motivated team of individuals supporting and managing accounting at Hughes. This will include compliance activities and processes, maintaining accurate books/records, providing timely and accurate data required for business and financial analysis, and internal and external reporting.
This person will partner with our business teams and leaders to support their numerous initiatives. Building strong business relationships within the organization will be a significant component of this position’s responsibilities.
Responsibilities
- Lead and energize the Hughes Accounting team, to enhance a high-performance team and culture.
- Evaluate talent/performance and effectively manage the Accounting team.
- Promote a sense of urgency for reaching goals and completing key deliverables.
- Manage the Accounting team’s work-life balance while delivering quality results and driving high performance.
- Provide Accounting personnel with effective feedback, training, regular status meetings and annual performance reviews.
- Provide accounting and financial input and leadership on key decisions affecting Hughes.
- Work with business teams, FP&A, Tax, IT and other departments to further develop policies and processes surrounding the operations and capital expenditures for our Hughes business.
- Review and continuously improve the system of policies, processes, procedures, templates and internal controls of the existing Hughes businesses.
- Analyze and interpret contracts to ensure proper accounting.
- Create and present ad-hoc analytics and reporting to support the Hughes business teams.
- Lead all aspects of the month-end close process.
- Review, analyze and document results of operations.
- Ensure that all account reconciliations are prepared, reviewed and approved on a timely basis.
- Review financial statements and support the preparation of external financial statements to be included in the periodic filings with the SEC (10-K, 10-Q, etc.) for EchoStar Corporation and Hughes Satellite Systems Corporation, including balance sheets, statements of operations, changes in stockholders’ equity and statements of cash flow.
- Prepare and present quarterly cash flow estimates.
- Develop solutions and systems to capture financial data for unique business transactions; serve as a liaison between business and accounting to ensure that needs are being met.
- Ability to research and interpret accounting principles and pronouncements and recommend applications.
- Collaborate with and advise all accounting and shared services teams (on process design and improvement to ensure proper accounting and reporting for the current business and future growth.
- Ensure proper and accurate classification of all transactions.
- Provide accurate and timely data for audits and other regulatory filings.
- Assist in special projects as necessary.
- Domestic and international travel is required
Basic Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field
- 15+ years of progressive accounting experience with recent experience at a multi-national public company with responsibility over the consolidated close, technical accounting and financial reporting
- 5+ years of progressive management experience
- Recent experience working with large ERP systems (Oracle or SAP) and Hyperion Financial Management (HFM/FDM).
- Active CPA
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in a publicly traded company.
- Master or CPA strongly preferred.
- Big Four accounting firm background is strongly preferred.
- Expertise in the U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Experience in telecommunications, digital media, media, entertainment, technology or a subscription-based industry is a plus.
- Recent experience working with large ERP systems (Oracle or SAP) and Hyperion Financial Management (HFM/FDM).
