The Scientific Communications and Information Sciences (SCIS) Systems Coordinator is a project and system management role within SCIS Operations that reports directly to the Director of SCIS Business Systems.
The Systems Coordinator is responsible for eliciting and understanding the technology needs of the Scientific Communications (Publication Management, Medical Writing, OSTIC) and Information Sciences (Clinical Literature Information Center, eVocabulary, Library, Scientific Nomenclature and Scited) teams.
Under the supervision of the Director of SCIS Business Systems., this person will work with SCIS colleagues and our company's Research Laboratories Information Technology (Research Division-IT) partners to identify, develop, launch and support appropriate IT systems and applications to address those needs. For assigned Research Division-IT projects, the Systems Coordinator will be responsible for the creation and project management of system development life cycle (SDLC) deliverables including requirement specifications, user acceptance testing (UAT) scripts and execution, and standard operating procedures (SOPs), and will review and approve related deliverables. In addition, the Systems Coordinator will assist with maintaining data quality within our publication management system. The ideal candidate will possess business acumen along with technical skills, excellent communication skills, and background in pharma/biotech systems.
Primary Assignments:
Assumes responsibility for assigned SCIS systems/applications.
Partners with SCIS user and stakeholder groups to understand their needs and translate them into effective business/user requirements and user stories.
In conjunction with Research Division-IT partners, maintains assigned system backlogs and prioritizes them based on evolving needs and departmental priorities.
Partners closely with Research Division-IT and external vendors to execute against the SCIS technology roadmap and backlog.
Acts as the SCIS project manager / single point of contact for IT initiatives, ensuring the participation of appropriate SCIS subject matter experts and providing the necessary inputs, reviews and approvals for System Development Life Cycle (SDLC) deliverables.
Plans and manages the execution of User Acceptance Testing (UAT) for all system/application releases.
Collaborates with SCIS Knowledge Management to drive user adoption of SCIS systems to ensure value realization of IT investments.
Partners with Research Division-IT in the evaluation and selection of systems technology.
Completes system administration, user administration, and master data management tasks as needed, and provides technical subject matter expertise and support on SCIS-owned systems/applications to the SCIS user community.
Runs and reviews publication management reports, identifies data quality issues, and either makes data corrections directly in the publication management system or coordinates with the data owner(s) to update the impacted records.
Required Skills and Experience:
Minimum of 3 years work experience including 2+ years of experience in one or more of the following: Pharmaceutical/biotech industry, business management, management information systems, information technology or project management.
Relevant background in systems coordination.
Expertise to lead systems workshops, interviews and other methodologies to inform effective and efficient, new and updated systems.
SDLC (system development lifecycle) knowledge and experience, including business system requirements definition, User Acceptance Testing (UAT) preparation and execution, and Standard Operating Procedure authoring.
Ability to perform independent research to learn and master new systems and tools.
Excellent project management skills with proven ability to manage small/medium projects from start to finish.
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Preferred Skills and Experience:
Pharma/biotech industry preferred.
Attention to detail, excellent communication skills and the ability to work independently, escalating risks and issues as appropriate.
Good interactive and networking skills.
Familiarity or experience with emerging technologies like Artificial Intelligence (AI), Natural Language Processing (NLP) and Robotic Process Automation (RPA).
Previous use of testing tools such as HP/Micro Focus Application Lifecycle Management (ALM).
Experience with Jira for issue tracking.
Minimum/preferred education:
• BS in life sciences, business, management information systems or information technology and 3+ years work experience
