The Amazon Demand Forecasting team seeks a Data Scientist with strong analytical and communication skills to join our team. We develop sophisticated algorithms that involve learning from large amounts of data, such as prices, promotions, similar products, and a products attributes, in order to forecast the demand of over 190 million products world-wide. These forecasts are used to automatically order more than $200 million worth of inventory weekly, establish labor plans for tens of thousands of employees, and predict the companys financial performance. The work is complex and important to Amazon. With better forecasts we drive down supply chain costs, enabling the offer of lower prices and better in-stock selection for our customers.
Key job responsibilities - Continuously innovate through research and the application of the latest deep learning techniques to drive accuracy improvement - Perform exploratory data analysis to identify business opportunities and develop a plan to address them - Communicating verbally and in writing to business customers with various levels of technical knowledge, educating them about our systems, as well as sharing insights and recommendations - Contribute to Amazon's global science community through collaboration and publication of groundbreaking research - Engage in research projects that contribute to the wider scientific community, sharing findings through publications in top-tier journals and conferences - Utilizing code (Python, R, Scala, SQL etc.) for analyzing data and building statistical and deep learning models
A day in the life Your role will include analyzing billions of rows of data using SQL/EMR, performing statistical analysis, and implementing cutting-edge neural network models on large datasets. As a successful data scientist on our Demand Forecasting team, you will leverage your analytical skills and business knowledge to address current challenges through collaboration with scientists, engineering, and business teams. You will also be responsible for communicating complex insights and recommendations clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders, helping to drive innovation. For scientists passionate about impactful research in deep learning and AI, our team offers a dynamic and fulfilling environment to make a tangible difference in the field and Amazon's operations.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- 2+ years of machine learning, statistical modeling, data mining, and analytics techniques experience - 2+ years of data querying languages (e.g. SQL), scripting languages (e.g. Python) or statistical/mathematical software (e.g. R, SAS, Matlab, etc.) experience - 2+ years of data scientist experience - Bachelor's degree
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Master's degree, or PhD - 2+ years of implementing deep learning models in a production environment - Experience processing, filtering, and presenting large quantities (Millions to Billions of rows) of data - Natural curiosity and desire to learn - Experience in forecasting and time series is a plus

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $125,500/year in our lowest geographic market up to $212,800/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
