The Berkeley Lab's Energy Geosciences Division is hiring a Postdoctoral Scholar in Geochemical Modeling, specializing in multicomponent reactive transport and inorganic aqueous geochemistry. The role involves applying reactive transport modeling to enhanced rock weathering projects, collaborating with a skilled interdisciplinary team. Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory is a renowned center for earth system and climate science.
What You Will Do:
- Develop and apply reactive transport models to quantify weathering rates of silicate amendments at field scale.
- Integrate diverse data into numerical models to identify factors enhancing weathering rates.
- Predict GHG fluxes from silicate amendments under varying conditions (e.g., climate, crop type).
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of geochemists, hydrologists, and computational scientists.
- Author peer-reviewed journal articles and technical reports.
- Interpret geochemical and hydrological data, including lab and field experiments and thermodynamic evaluations.
Additional Responsibilities as Needed:
- Experience in developing and applying computational software for reactive transport and/or flow modeling.
What is Required:
- Ph.D. in geochemistry, civil/environmental engineering, earth sciences, hydrology, or related field.
- Expertise in reactive transport models and microbially-mediated biochemical reaction networks.
- Ability to develop new research areas and proposals.
- Strong collaboration skills with multidisciplinary teams.
- Excellent communication skills and a proven publication record in high-impact journals.
Desired Qualifications:
- International research exposure.
Notes:
- This is a full-time, 2 year, postdoctoral appointment with the possibility of renewal based upon satisfactory job performance, continuing availability of funds and ongoing operational needs. You must have less than 3 years of paid postdoctoral experience. Salary for Postdoctoral positions depends on years of experience post-degree.
- The monthly salary range for this position is $6,476.00 - $8,326.00 and is expected to start at $6,476.00 or above. Postdoc positions are paid on a step schedule per union contract and salaries will be predetermined based on postdoctoral step rates. Each step represents one full year of completed post-Ph.D postdoctoral and/or related research experience.
- This position is represented by a union for collective bargaining purposes.
- This position may be subject to a background check. Any convictions will be evaluated to determine if they directly relate to the responsibilities and requirements of the position. Having a conviction history will not automatically disqualify an applicant from being considered for employment.
- Work will be primarily performed at Lawrence Berkeley National Lab, 1 Cyclotron Road, Berkeley, CA.
