ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Responsible for teaching during the fall and spring semesters. Responsible for teaching Music Theory 1&2 and Ear Training and Melodic Dictation. in the fall and spring semesters. Prepares and delivers lectures to students. Compiles specialized materials for assignments. Stimulates class discussion. Compiles, administers, and grades examinations, or assigns this work to others. All other relevant duties as assigned will specifically include ,the teaching of : Scales, Tonality, Key, Modes Cadences and Non harmonic Tones Melodic Organization (Binary and Ternary Forms) Musical Textures Harmonic Progressions and Harmonic Rhythm Dominant 7th chords Modulations Secondary Dominants Macro Analysis Basic Orchestration (Theory 2) Recognizing Melodic Intervals (ear training) The ability to teach fixed and movable Do
EDUCATION: Masters required, Ph.D. preferred.
EXPERIENCE: A minimum of two years teaching experience in a higher education setting.
QUALIFICATIONS: Must be able to work with little or no supervision. Must be able to make decisions supporting the departments mission and goals. Must be able to handle multiple tasks and projects and prioritize based on departmental functionality. Must have excellent communication skills, oral and written. Must have interpersonal skills, and the ability to work within a culturally diverse organization. Must have a high level of professional appearance and demeanor. Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work is primarily performed in a university campus environment and requires a flexible schedule. Travel for administrative work is expected. The employee is subject to inside environmental conditions: protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Moderate lifting up to 20 pounds as frequently as needed to move objects; dexterity to write and manipulate computer keyboard and mouse; ability to hear and speak clearly; and body mobility to stoop, kneel, bend and reach.
