Responsibilities: | The New School Facilities Management is responsible for maintaining and operating the buildings on campus. Facilities Management is dedicated to excellent customer service in all aspects of its operations. We invite feedback and suggestions from all members of the university community that will help us make the New School campus beautiful, safe, and sustainable.
Facilities Management’s Summer Housing Intern works closely with staff members to provide leadership and direction for an on-campus population of up to 1,300 residents. The Summer Housing Intern will work under the supervision of the Director of Summer Housing Operations and in conjunction with the Resident Director within an assigned hall. The Summer Housing Intern program at The New School has been designed to provide participants with broad, in-depth, and hands-on practical experience within the Housing Operations & Residential Education offices.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Housing Operations - Help manage office, mail room, & building operational functions throughout summer.
- Help manage summer application processing.
- Assist with summer billing & contract organization.
- Help manage guest check-ins & check-outs.
- Engage in effective communication via email & phone with guests, outside contractors, & TNS partners.
- Daily engagement with StarRez room management software.
- Assume additional responsibilities as assigned by Facilities Management and Office of Residential Education.
- Execute other administrative tasks as assigned.
Duty - Serve on the 24-hour emergency on-call duty rotation and act as a resource to Operations Assistants in response after-hours in all residence halls.
- Responsibilities may include overnight management of crisis, communication with parents, hospital transports of students, coordination with New School Campus Safety or emergency Facilities staff, and NYC Emergency Services providers.
WORK MODE On-Campus Position – Employees in this position are expected to work on-campus during regularly scheduled work hours due to the nature of the work being that which is not feasible, or not in the best interest of the organization, to be performed remotely.
COMPENSATION
1. A single occupancy bedroom within one of The New School’s residence halls. 2. A summer stipend of $4000 which will be paid bi-weekly during periods of employment. Based on the hiring date for the position, this stipend will be prorated accordingly if hired after the contract date. |
Minimum Qualifications: | - Prior Housing/Residence Life experience and a Masters or Doctoral degree in Student Personnel Administration, Higher Education, Counseling, or relevant field of study is required. Current enrollment in a Masters or Doctoral program with similar concentrations will also be considered
- Ability to work with a diverse residential population, including domestic and international college-age students, Pre-College students (15-18 years of age), and adult conferences.
- Assist with all aspects of Summer Housing, including marketing, application processing, communication via email and phone, managing check-ins and check-outs, billing, etc. through StarRez Room Management software.
- Assist with aspects of the academic year housing operation including application processing, communication, academic year housing assignments, billing, etc.
- Maintain 25 office hours per week outside of regularly scheduled departmental and one-on-one supervisor meetings.
- Complete comprehensive Professional Development Plan (PDP) prior to arrival in May and create an end-of-summer transition report outlining and reflecting on the impact of your role and providing feedback for the offices of Facilities Management & Residential Education.
- Complete all tasks, projects, and duties as assigned.
