Job Summary:
Functions within the sterile field and provides reliable assistance to the members of the team including nurses, manager, and physician. Prepares the operating room for surgery and assists during surgical procedures. Sets up instruments for and assists during cesarean deliveries, vaginal deliveries, suction curettage, and consults. Assist in surgery department when necessary within scope of practice. Obtains necessary equipment and supplies and stocks rooms to ensure proper day to day operation of the unit. Assists with the after care of equipment and supplies. Accountable to the Patient Care Manager and Director. The OR tech demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served; demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development and possesses the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the department's policies and procedures.

- Demonstrate technical aptitude for dealing with and troubleshooting multiple pieces of unit equipment including but not limited to electro cautery, suctions, surgical lights, delivery room lights, OR and vaginal delivery tables, instrument decontaminating washers, and sterilizers. .
- Demonstrate the aptitude for safely positioning patients using stirrups, OR table straps.
- Demonstrate the ability to tolerate high and low temperature ranges set to accommodate desired patient outcomes.
- Demonstrate the ability to safely scrub, gown and glove; maintain the sterile field; retract and pass instruments as needed.
- Demonstrate the aptitude for anticipating the needs of the patient, physician and staff members in emergency situations.
- Demonstrate the ability to tolerate operating room environment.
- Demonstrate all necessary steps in infection prevention in the operating room setting.
Qualifications:
Education/Skills
Diploma or GED required. Associate Degree or Surgical Technologist certification preferred.
Work Experience:
Completion of an approved operating room technician course.
Certification/Licensure-DUE UPON HIRE
- Surgical Technologist Certification-Preferred
