Position Summary
The Adult Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner Nurse provides timely, non-judgmental, compassionate care to the adult sexual assault victim.
Essential Functions
Provides forensic exam and evidence collection according to protocols established by UH Adult Forensic Program
Conducts medical assault interviews utilizing forensic techniques
Accurately performs and documents a comprehensive forensic exam based on the established protocols
Performs a head to toe assessment for trauma, and detailed genital exam
Documents detailed injuries accurately with support of photographic evidence
Effectively utilizes the colposcope to provide photographic documentation
Provides expert and fact testimony when required; Coordinates with attorneys during judicial process
Participates in quality assurance chart and photograph review process
Collaborates effectively with other disciplines and provides appropriate follow-up resources for patient and families
Knowledgeable in coordinating the patient’s care regarding the possibility of exposure to infections (i.e. sexually transmitted diseases, including the transmission of HIV)

Must abide by all requirements to safely and securely maintain Protected Health Information (PHI) for our patients. Annual training, the UH Code of Conduct and UH policies and procedures are in place to address appropriate use of PHI in the workplace.
Qualifications Education
Other Accredited Program . Required and
(ADN) Associate's Degree in Nursing . Required and
(BSN) Bachelor's Degree in Nursing . Preferred
Work Experience
1 years RN experience Required
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Knowledge of nursing process and practice Required
Proficient in nursing assessments and communication skills for the adult population Required
Understands the physiologic factors related to sexual assault and intimate partner abuse and violence Required
Knowledgeable in normal versus abnormal findings during assault assessments Required
Demonstrated skills in human relations, human & material resource management Required
Evidence of ability to provide exceptional clinical and administrative nursing leadership Required
Specifically trained in patient advocacy while coordinating services for the patient/family to provide holistic care Required
Able to work autonomously and prioritize patient needs effectively. Required
Able to work collaboratively with the medical team to communicate patient needs. Required
Licenses and Certifications
Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of Ohio Required and
Basic Life Support (BLS) Required
Additional Licenses and Certifications
Completion of didactic SANE training, including: four hours of court observation; training with the Cleveland Rape Crisis Center, Cleveland Sex Crime department and the Bureau of Criminal Investigation Center. Required and
Adult/Adolescent SANE certification through the International Association of Forensic Nurses (IAFN) Required and
Certified Adult/adolescent sexual assault nurse examiner (SANE-A) Preferred
