The University of Virginia seeks an Assistant Director, Digital Engagement to support digital marketing and communications for events, programs, and updates for University Advancement’s Office of Engagement. The Assistant Director, Digital Engagement will create clear, informative, accurate, well-designed, and functional content consistent with style and brand guidelines and best practices. This position will also handle and maintain data and proactively manage its movement between digital systems. Thorough skills to develop and implement original ideas as well as correctly identify and effectively solve problems.
Reporting to the Senior Associate Director, Digital Engagement, the ideal candidate will have a proven track record with digital marketing projects, the ability to work autonomously as well as part of a team, and excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships.
Responsibilities include:
- Assist in the creation and execution of digital marketing email campaigns, including building email templates, procuring constituent data, and scheduling email sends.
- Design and build registration forms for virtual and in-person events using enterprise platforms and tools.
- Ensure all marketing content aligns with brand guidelines, tone, and voice to maintain brand consistency across all channels.
- Coordinate with partners to ensure seamless integration of registration forms with event logistics and marketing efforts.
- Update and manage relevant registration data fields in accordance with data management best practices.
- Monitor email performance metrics, analyze results, and implement strategies for continuous improvement.
- Ensure accurate and timely responses to inquiries, escalating to proper staff where necessary.
- Provide feedback and recommendations to partners to enhance the quality and effectiveness of marketing materials.
- Independently manage project plans utilizing internal digital project management system.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align digital marketing initiatives with overall marketing objectives.
- Participate in University Advancement and Office of Engagement events and activities, including some travel.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
Required qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in related area
Minimum 1 year of experience
Ability to work independently and take a concept to successful completion with little oversight
Interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills across mediums
Preferred Qualifications:
2 years of experience
Strategic and creative thinker; strong analytical, and critical-thinking skills
Database platform entry; HTML and/or MJML Email Creation; Content Management Systems (Drupal and WordPress); Project Management Tools; Canva; Cvent; Eventbrite; and Salesforce.

This position may work from anywhere, with the expectation of being in Charlottesville a minimum of four times a year at UVA’s expense.
This position will remain open until filled. This is an exempt level, benefited position. This position will not sponsor for work visas. This position is a restricted position and is dependent upon project need, availability of funding, and performance. The salary range is $55,000 - $65,000 and is commensurate with education and experience. The University will perform background checks on all new hires prior to employment.
