SALARY RANGE: $72,624.00 - $116,198.00 ANNUALLY
EDUCATION ACCREDITATION: Applicants education must be obtained from an accredited institution. Education credentials obtained out of the US must be evaluated for US equivalency. Evaluation agencies information may be obtained at www.naces.org.
ELIGIBILITY: Qualified candidates will be considered for vacancies as they arise, for a period of at least six months. The decision of the Director of Human Resources with respect to acceptable minimum qualifications is final.
CRIMINAL BACKGROUND CHECK: Eligible candidates under final consideration for appointment to this position identified as positions of trust will be required to authorize the release of and successfully complete a Fingerprint check.
PROBATION: All persons, including current City employees, selected from this position will be on probation for 6 months.
CLASS DESCRIPTION
A Motor Equipment Specification Supervisor develops detailed, complex technical requirements for the acquisition of automobiles, heavy and light duty trucks, off-road construction and special application equipment and oversees vehicle abuse prevention and customer service programs. Work of this class involves supervising technical and office support personnel.
Incumbents receive general supervision from an administrative superior. Employees in this class work a conventional workweek. Work is performed primarily in an office setting where there are few uncomfortable working conditions; however inclement weather and other hazardous conditions may be encountered during on-site field visits. Work requires minimal physical exertion.
SELECTION PROCESS

- Knowledge of the techniques of writing equipment and vehicle specifications.
- Knowledge of the operation of various types of heavy equipment and vehicles.
- Knowledge of equipment and vehicle purchasing techniques.
- Knowledge of customer service in a fleet maintenance operation.
- Skill in writing technical specifications.
- Ability to deal effectively with City officials and vendors.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with vendors, co-workers and program personnel.
- Supervisory ability.
- Ability to operate, test and evaluate new equipment and vehicles for compliance with specifications and City standards.
- Ability to develop and monitor equipment budgets.
- Ability to direct the maintenance of files, records and logs.
- Ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally.
- Administrative ability.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
On or before the date of filing the application, each candidate must:
EDUCATION: Have a bachelor's degree in automotive engineering from an accredited college or university.
AND
EXPERIENCE: Have three years of experience in automotive fleet operations or automotive maintenance.
OR
NOTES (EQUIVALENCIES): Have an equivalent combination of education and experience
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATES: Have a valid Maryland Class C Noncommercial driver’s license or an equivalent out-of-state driver’s license acceptable to the Office of Risk Management is required
EXAMINATION PROCESS
