POSITION SUMMARY:
The Sr Specialist Mechanical Engineering (IS) for Utility Engineering has the professional responsibility for Thermal, Refrigeration, Wastewater, Compressed Air, Hazard Gases, Sustainability and Compliance. The position utilizes areas of expertise within 2-3 IS areas from above and the ability to link them to business needs and provide technical solutions accordingly.
This position is accountable for the supply of required industrial services (IS) for the Nestlé USA factories and the safe reliable and efficient operation and maintenance of the industrial services equipment and supply services for all areas of Industrial Services. One of our goals is to help factories run efficiently and ultimately achieve carbon neutrality in order to effectively combat climate change.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
People Development and coaching
Coach and develop expertise at the Factory IS Department level (IS Managers, Supervisors and Techs) for continuous support and improvement of the Factory utility operation. Monthly Operational Review participation to provide IS support as needed
Provide Subject Matter Expert (SME) expertise to project teams (Factory and CPMO) with ammonia/refrigeration design, boiler / thermal design, compressed air systems, and/or wastewater system design.
Participate in professional / IS industry activities as required. Review industry best practices and evaluate application and benefits in the IS area.
Ensures knowledge and standards development in your technical areas of expertise, coordinating with Experts / Specialists (within and outside Nestle) in line with safety, product quality and operations objectives.
Operational performance / cost
Be accountable for the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of the industrial services to meet the operation’s demand. This includes guidance of the IS departments, providing direction, and developing their capability and performance. IS operation includes ensuring services are provided in the right quantity and quality, reliably and efficiently, minimizing cost and environmental impact. Obtain Nestle and external IS certifications as needed.
Compliance / Safety (reduction in audit findings, safety behaviors)
Compliance with all federal, state, local and internal Nestle requirements from design through operation and maintenance of the IS plant. Ensure the efficient operation of all utility systems minimizing the use of natural resources, energy, and the impact on the environment. Drive resource conservation and awareness within the facility in alignment with Nestle.
Project focus and deliverables (SME support for factory projects)
Provide Engineering design and review for capital projects or Zone standards including detailed phases of the engineering work and field support. Requires coordination of work by outside consultants and equipment suppliers, and an understanding of principles and practices to perform engineering functions. Requires strong communications skills and ability to perform well on teams. Produce, verify or manage IS engineering deliverables for projects of all sizes: Scopes of Work (SOW's), Request for Quote or Proposal (RFP/RFQ), IS construction packages (IS layouts and schematics, etc.). Equipment Specification and Procurement, and FAT/Commissioning/Startup Support
Sustainability (energy and water reduction)
Develop and execute sustainability projects focused on Reduce, Rethink, replace methodology to help achieve Net Zero goals. Participate in Manufacturing Master Plan for Net Zero workshops focused on eliminating Greenhouse gases (GHG).
REQUIREMENTS AND MINIMUM EDUCATION LEVEL:
• Bachelor's Degree within an engineering field (Mechanical, Electrical, Controls, Environmental, Industrial, Chemical Engineering)
EXPERIENCE:
• 3 - 5 years of experience within project engineering, maintenance, industrial services or utilities in a manufacturing setting
SKILLS:
• Ability to work in manufacturing environments in utility departments. This includes access to roofs, cooling towers, catwalks, utility areas that are both hot and cold.
• Knowledge required of thermal, ammonia, sustainability or compliance systems, strongly preferred.
• Project skills will include equipment specifications and sizing requirements, and the deliverables required to complete basic engineering and design work packages.
• General understanding of best practices for utility design and installation.
