Purpose of Announcement
EXAMINATION IS ANNOUNCED TO ESTABLISH AN EMPLOYMENT LIST TO FILL ONE (1) CURRENT EAST JEFFERSON VACANCY IN THE DEPARTMENT OF ENGINEERING.
This employment list will also be used for future EAST AND WEST Jefferson vacancies in this Department as they occur.
Kind of Work
The purpose of this position is to act as an instrument technician on the field survey team. Employee operates automated field equipment, including transit, level, distance meter, total station, and GPS to measure and record survey data for use in a variety of projects including the design, planning or analysis of land boundaries, the preparation of construction plans and documents, and geodetic control. Performs construction layout operations for the installation of infrastructure, including streets, bridges, drainage facilities, and water and sewer facilities. Collects, researches and prepares data for use by field survey teams. Performs other job related duties as requested. Position requires driving of a Parish vehicle, thus possession of a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record will be given preference.
Minimum Qualifications For Admission to Examination
Meets one of the following options: I. Current employment with Jefferson Parish and permanent civil service status as a Land Survey Assistant.
II. Completion of high school/equivalent and six (6) months of field experience assisting with land surveying work.
III. Completion of high school/equivalent and nine (9) months of field experience assisting with other construction site work, involving taking measurements.
OR
IV. Possession of a career/technical program diploma or certificate in a construction-related field.

The examination may consist of a written test, a rating of training and experience, an oral panel interview or any combination thereof. Acceptable applicants will be notified of the time, date, and place of any assembled testing. Applicants must supply complete and accurate information concerning their training and experience including a detailed description of their work experience, the names and addresses of all previous employers and the dates of employment. The information is subject to verification and the Personnel Department reserves the right to determine the quality and quantity of education and experience claimed for credit.
