The Department of Surgery is seeking to hire a limited part time Laboratory Asisstant I to work in a cutting-edge Liver Transplant research laboratory. Under the mentorship of the 2 Principal Investigators the candidate will help perform research that aims to develop a mouse model of alcohol disease. In this role you will work with primary and passaged liver cell lines and research animals. This will require you to complete a variety of common lab techniques including, but not limited to, protein expression and isolation, ELISA, IHC and Western blotting. The Lab Assistant 1 will be located primarily within the Kupiec-Weglinski laboratory space but will be anticipated to interact closely with clinical and collaborating labs and personnel.

Job Qualifications

Excellent skill in verbal and written communication, especially for the purpose of providing information to others in the laboratory.
Understanding of basic chemical and biological principles, especially those needed for lab work.
Bachelor of Science degree in a life/biomedical science discipline.
Ability to work with live animals.
Willingness to learn how to work with live animals.
Advanced skill and knowledge of computer applications.
Skill in keeping accurate and complete records.
Ability to perform work in an accurate and thorough manner with close attention to detail.
Ability to be self-motivated, work with minimal supervision at times, handle multiple tasks and prioritize workload.
Ability to work as part of a team and establish cooperative working relationships with researchers, residents, students, and other support personnel.
Knowledge of UCLA Policies and Procedures, especially for safe lab work.
Ability to read and understand research and clinical protocols as guidelines.
Organized, detail oriented, and able to quickly adapt to the addition of novel tasks.
