The University of Virginia is seeking a highly qualified candidate for the role of Director, Summer and Special Academic Programs. The Director will be responsible for the comprehensive planning, organization, and execution of the University\u2019s domestic undergraduate Summer Session and January Term programs.
Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Development and implementation of academic programs that align with University and school-level academic goals, in collaboration with schools and departments.
Collaboration with department chairs, summer chairs, associate deans, and faculty in designing engaging and academically rigorous courses.
Assist with the development, and manage the delivery, of Special Programs in Summer Session such as the Summer Language Institute and UVA Advance.
Support department chairs, summer chairs, and associate deans in recruiting, hiring, and training faculty and graduate student instructors.
Partner with UVA HR and the Office of the EVPP to ensure SSAP faculty and student teaching assignments comply with university policies.
Management of the budget for SSAP operations, including revenue projections, expenditure tracking, and financial reporting.
Ensuring compliance with university policies, regulations, and accreditation standards.
Development and implementation of policies and procedures to promote a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment.
Coordination of student recruitment efforts, including marketing initiatives and admissions processes for visiting students.
Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of SSAP programs, soliciting feedback from students, faculty, and other stakeholders for continuous improvement.
Collaborate with university business units to coordinate support services such as housing, dining, transportation, student health, and recreational activities, for Summer Session and J-term participants.
Serve as the primary point of contact for inquiries and concerns related to the university"s Summer Session and J-term programs.
Represent the university at conferences, workshops, and other convenings.
Engage in professional development opportunities to stay current on trends and best practices in administration of special terms and higher education generally.
Directly supervise 3.5 staff FTEs.
Qualifications:
Master\u2019s degree.
Minimum of seven years of experience in academic program administration, preferably in a university setting.
Demonstrated leadership abilities, with experience managing teams and projects effectively.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Understanding of budgeting and financial management principles.
Familiarity with student recruitment strategies.
Commitment to providing equitable and inclusive educational experience in alignment with the University\u2019s commitment to Inclusive Excellence.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other relevant software applications and experience using enterprise database systems such as Salesforce and Workday.
Willingness to work evenings and weekends as needed during peak periods of activity.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience teaching courses at the college level; Knowledge of curriculum development, instructional design, and assessment practices.
This is a full-time, benefit eligible position with an anticipated hiring range of $95,000 - $130,000. While occasional remote work is possible, the incumbent will be expected to be on-site to fulfill the responsibilities of the position.
