This position, reporting to the Associate Director (Research Enterprise Applications) will be a member of the Research Enterprise Applications team supporting Integrated Research Enterprise Solutions (IRES) applications and business process design for the Office of Research Administration. This position will develop a detailed understanding of business processes used in the operation of one or more areas within the Office of Research Administration and will be the “resident expert” in the use and configurations of the systems supporting operations. The role will partner with the primary contact for customer support for one or more of the IRES applications. They will function as an escalation point for system and business process issues and must be able to analyze and develop solutions for a wide range of business process and system issues in support of user needs , at all levels of the University, in a timely and efficient manner. Creativity, the ability to multi-task, and the capacity to work independently are requirements for this position. The person in this position must have the capacity to understand technical concepts but be able to communicate in a non-technical manner with functional users. This role will collaborate with other members of the team to ensure the development of consistent business architecture across the research enterprise applications at Yale.
Examples of the work this role will participate or be responsible for are:
Process Improvement: Independently lead business process improvement projects working with a wide range of business owners and users to document “as is” and “to be” business processes while using standard modeling tools and process improvement methodologies. Conduct a comprehensive business case analysis to align with the most suitable technical, application or configuration solutions. Solicit, develop, document, and manage requirements and provide details design and business rules to support the requirements throughout the project life cycle up to and through change control. Organize requirements into related categories to manage and communicate them effectively and efficiently. Analyzing stakeholder needs by translating business requirements into software requirements. Prioritize initiatives based on business requirements and solution risk analysis. Lead ongoing reviews of business processes and develop optimization strategies. Function as a liaison between business stakeholders, such as management, customers or end users, and the software Vendor. Provide second tier support, working as a liaison between first tier support, Associate Director, and Vendor to facilitate resolution of complex client support issues.
Communications: Conduct meetings to elicit requirements. Present to senior leadership and other groups during all phases of a project. Document and deliver concise analysis obtained during requirements gathering allowing business owners to make informed decisions regarding options for problem resolution. Monitor deliverables and ensure timely completion of projects.
Testing: Oversee, facilitate, and deliver system test plans and system-test modules before implementation. Participate in the development, review, and delivering of end-user documentation (user guides, process flow charts, training materials.) Work with the users to select or create appropriate scenarios to evaluate all results to determine whether system changes met project specifications; use scenarios to assist the end user in acceptance testing. Proven project management skills. Knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures. 1. Perform a diverse range of analytical duties in the development of technology solutions for business processes.2. Plan, organize, and define requirements, methods, and end user objectives, coordinate effort with team members, other IT staff, users, and vendors.3. Interview, analyze, and document end-user processes and systems requirements for enhancement and/or workflow improvements or new system development.4. Develop and execute system test plans to ensure application performance aligns to specifications.5. Prepare technical reports, design workflow maps or other documents to facilitate system/s understanding.6. May lead segments of larger projects, develop trainings, presentations, and communications. Bachelor's Degree and four years of experience or equivalent education and experience.
