Meritus Health is officially seeking accreditation and licensure to open a proposed four-year osteopathic medical school in Hagerstown.
Faculty- Primary Care Education Job description:
The Faculty of Primary Care of the proposed Meritus School of Osteopathic Medicine will work with other administrators, faculty, and staff to administer the Clinical Medicine Department. In conjunction with the Chair of Primary Care, this person will be responsible for the clinical curriculum of OMS I-IV, as well as the oversight of Clinical Skills Training and Simulations. The Faculty of Primary Care are responsible for implementing the clinical academic program, ensuring that the curricular content is taught, learned, and assessed in a manner that is appropriate for the students’ achievement of professional competencies. Additionally, the Faculty of Primary Care will support the Department of Clinical Medicine and its activities, including pre-clinical and clinical teaching, research, and scholarly activities.
Education - D.O. degree with a history in academic medicine teaching and assessment.
Experience - Minimum of five years of experience in teaching and academic leadership in a osteopathic medical school. Full-time teaching experience in an osteopathic medical school and successful experience at the Discipline or Department level in higher education. Demonstrated experience effectively teaching and directing clinical sciences course. A physician with successful completion of an approved faculty development or other graduate program in education management preferred.
Licensure/Certification - Actively licensed osteopathic physicians who are ABMS or AOA board certified in a primary care (family medicine, internal medicine, pediatrics) discipline
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities - Strong leadership skills with experience with strategic planning, systems improvement, budgets, effective management, and a background in health policy;
- Knowledge of clinical education concepts necessary to ensure a proper understanding for students;
- Knowledge of osteopathic principles and practices;
- Compliance with State and Federal Regulations and Safety Protocols, at the practice level;
- Knowledge of patients' (HIPAA) and students' (FERPA) privacy;
- Follow proper OSHA and safety guidelines;
- Protect equipment (office, facility, etc.);
- Strong interpersonal and communications skills, including tact and diplomacy are essential as well as computer literacy (MS Office Suit [i.e. Word, Canvas, PowerPoint and Excel]) and accurate data entry skills;
- Maintaining an established work schedule;
- Effectively using organizational and planning skills, including attention to detail and follow-through;
- Assessing and prioritizing multiple tasks, projects, and demands;
- Maintaining confidentiality of work-related information and materials;
- Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships;
- Be able to be flexible to accept other duties needed/assigned for the practice needs;
- The ability to work cooperatively and collegially with others, consistent with a workplace of dignity and respect
- The ability to accept work directives from managers and supervisors in a respectful, professional and cooperative manner.
