PRIMARY DUTIES Under direction of the school principal, the noon duty aideassists in providing for the safety and welfare of students fornon-classroom activities during the lunch period in the cafeteria,at the outdoor lunch tables, on the playground and providesother duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS Knowledge of:• General needs and behavior of school-age children• Basic principles of First Aid and CPR required• General safety practices• Conflict resolution techniques• District and school policies, rules, and regulationsAbility to:• Understand and attend to the physical, social, andemotional needs of children• Possess a genuine liking for children• Proactively monitor students during lunch time activities• Understand and follow oral and written instructions• Establish and maintain cooperative and harmoniousrelationships with students and adults• Effectively communicate in English with students andstaff• Encourage students of varying abilities to exhibitappropriate behavior• Encourage students to participate in play activities• Reinforce positive character traits in students• Adapt to new procedures and conditions• Recognize safety hazards• Learn related laws, rules, practices, and procedurespertaining to lunch time
ESSENTIAL DUTIES • Monitors and guides students in assigned areas• Guides activities such as eating, playing and use of restrooms• Monitors the use of playground equipment and playactivities• Assists and maintains a pleasant environment• Reports cases of unusual student behavior or otherpotential problems to the classroom teacher and/oradministrator• Assumes responsibility for the safety of children• Observes and reports safety hazards• Prevents children from engaging in unsafe activities• Operates a two-way radio as needed
PHYSICAL DEMANDS • Ability to see and hear for the purpose of observing andregulating student behavior• Stand and walk for long periods of time• Occasionally run for brief periods• Cope with stress and emergency situations• Frequently climb stairs• Occasionally exert 10 -20 pounds of force to lift, carry,push, pull, or otherwise move objects• Be able to bend, climb, kneel and balance to assiststudents as needed• Perceive the nature of sound, near and far vision, depthperception, provide oral information, the manual dexterityto operate work related equipment, and handle and workwith various materials and objects• Prolonged exposure to weather elements and noise
EDUCATION ANDEXPERIENCE• High school diploma or equivalent is desired• Possession of a valid First Aid and CPR certification or secure certification no later than six (6) months after thedate of employment• Experience in organizing and participating in social andrecreational group activities with children is desired.
