Requirements / Qualifications
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Provides support for the Professional Learning Team Substitutes (PLTS) in developing lessons and curriculum in English Language Development through Science, Math, Social Emotional Learning, Physical Education, and Art. Provide Professional Development after each PLT RESPONSIBLE TO: Director of Equity
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Develops, promotes, and delivers high-quality supplemental professional development on content and instructional strategies for all students. Plan units of study around themes that follow the PLT cycle. Mentor PLTS with classroom management and social-emotional learning. Model lessons to provide guidance and other instructional strategies that will support quality instruction. Performs demonstration lessons with students in classroom situations for observation by PLTS. Collaborates with and supports the Director of Equity to build community, review, discuss, and assess districtwide PLTS needs based on district data to support quality instruction while certificated teachers are planning. Organize materials and supplies for PLCS. Conducts focused observations and provides “next step” support to substitutes. Assists in establishing a support structure where all schools have the consistency and support needed by the PLTS. Assists the Director Equity in providing technical assistance to PLTS. Assists with program data/evidence analysis. Participates in the site and district-level instructional leadership team trainings. Participates in regular professional development that leads to continuous improvements. Collaborate with district colleagues to align resources and practices. Work with community partners to train PLTS in the effective delivery of supplemental resources. Performs other related duties as assigned.
MININUM QUALIFICATIONS: ABILITY TO: Analyze problems, identify potential solutions and make appropriate and effective recommendations; Communicate effectively both orally and in writing; Work effectively in a diverse socio-economic and multicultural community; Operate a computer (Google-Certification Level I desirable) and job-related equipment; Work independently with little direction; and, Meet schedules and time-lines. KNOWLEDGE OF: Current State and Federal Regulations/Mandates regarding programs and services for English learners and/or Migrant Education students; Best practices in servicing English learners and Migrant Ed students; Current stages of Second Language Acquisition in various program models (ELD-only, One-Way, Dual Language Immersion, etc.); English Language Development, English Language Development Standards, Integrated and Designated English Language Development, Migrant Education best practices, and, Social Emotional Support for EL and Migrant Ed students; Evidence/data analysis; Multi-media presentation delivery techniques; Elements of a balanced literacy program, strategies needed for struggling readers / non-readers in the upper grades; and, the distinction between second language errors and reading errors.
LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Must possess a valid California Driver’s license. TRAINING, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Valid and appropriate California Teaching Credential. Cross-cultural Language and Academic Development and/or BCLAD in Spanish, AB 466 certification. A minimum of three (3) years or more of successful bilingual teaching experience (in Spanish.)
