Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Research Coordinator.
The Research Coordinator will assist Dr. Suzan Walters, Assistant Professor at the Center for Opioid Epidemiology and Policy, Department of Population Health to carry out research-related tasks specific to Dr. Walters grants/research projects focused on intersectional stigma, harm reduction, and HIV. Projects include longitudinal surveys, semi-structured qualitative interviews, ethnography, and PhotoVoice. The Research Coordinator will have the opportunity to assist in evaluating the first publicly recognized, overdose prevention center in the United States.
The Research Coordinator will also oversee and support the development of an intersectional stigma and resilience research lab.
Primarily responsibilities include (a) assisting with research tasks including data collection, data analysis, conducting literature reviews, preparing scientific manuscripts, and drafting policy briefs; and (b) supporting project management and administration, including managing project timelines and deliverables, overseeing IRB and grant documentation, management of the intersectional stigma lab, and related duties as they apply.
The Research Coordinator will be integrated into a vibrant and diverse community of analysts, doctoral students, postdoctoral fellows, faculty, and staff in the Center for Opioid Epidemiology and Policy (COEP). COEP serves as a central source of research on the United States rapidly shifting overdose epidemic. COEP seeks to inform evidence-based policies to prevent overdose in populations nationally and globally. As a member of COEP and the wider Department of Population Health, the Research Coordinator will have access to monthly open analyst meetings, career development sessions, journal clubs, seminars, research meetings and events, and more.
Job Responsibilities:
- Assist with daily oversight of projects, including successfully maintaining relationships with other departmental staff to ensure success of each research project.
- Participate in primary data collection activities, including participant outreach, recruitment, informed consent, conducting surveys, PhotoVoice, qualitative interviews, and ethnography.
- Contribute to mixed methods data analysis tasks, including qualitative coding and data management of survey data (with option for greater engagement in data analysis tasks depending on Research Coordinator skills and interests).
- Conduct literature reviews for ongoing research projects and new grant proposals.
- Help prepare manuscripts for publication and grant submissions, including drafting sections, managing data tables and reference lists.
- Draft presentations and reports for collaborators, including preparing policy briefs and research summaries for non-academic stakeholders.
- Coordinate scientific events and meetings.
- Be part of the larger fabric of the NYU Center for Opioid Epidemiology and Policy, participating in center activities and discussions around substance use research.
- Support Institutional Review Board submissions and modifications.
- Assist with management of project finances and ordering of study supplies.
- Organize and maintain research records.
- Plan and schedule study meetings.
- Manage study research assistants and interns.
Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify you must have a Bachelor degree or equivalent in business administration, health care administration or related field.
Minimum of two years of progressively responsible project coordination experience, preferably in a research setting.
Proficiency in using various Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Excel, Access, Power Point and Outlook. Familiar with Internet applications.
Effective oral, written, communication, interpersonal skills.
Ability to interface effectively with all levels of management and must work and communicate effectively with both internal and external customers.
Ability to work within a team environment as well as independently.
Commitment to continuous learning as required by department administration.
Ability to operate research related equipment
Ability to work and make decisions independently.
Time management skills and ability to multitask.
Ability to identify, analyze and solve problems: Ability to work well under pressure.
Preferred Qualifications:
Masters Degree in public health or related field (e.g., policy, psychology, sociology, anthropology, health sciences)
Some previous data analysis experience using quantitative and/or qualitative statistical software (e.g. Stata, R, SAS, Dedoose).
Prior experience working with and/or interest in substance use, overdose, harm reduction, health systems and policy translation.
Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $34.28 - $44.28 Hourly. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
