The Office of Undergraduate Admission is seeking applicants for part-time, temporary application reader positions. Application readers review and evaluate first-year and transfer applications for undergraduate admission. The part-time reader assists full-time admission staff members in analyzing the academic qualifications of prospective students and considering the unique life journeys and experiences of each applicant to one of the University’s undergraduate schools. Upon completion of the reader assessment, readers submit evaluations and recommendations through an electronic file management system. The reader must be committed to the University’s mission, values, and institutional enrollment goals. The Office of Admission is committed to enrolling talented and deserving new students from a wide variety of backgrounds and communities, and to provide a thorough and holistic review of an applicant’s story.
Readers are expected to communicate regularly with designated admission staff via telephone, Zoom and email. Additionally, readers are expected to respond to communication requests in a timely manner and work through traditional Monday-Friday, 9 am – 5 pm workday hours. Readers are also required to attend a two-week training in the month of October (this training is in-person for those in the Charlottesville area, and virtual for those who are remote).
The duration of the assignment is subject to change depending on application volume. A typical reading season will begin with a paid 2-week training in October and end in February, pending application volume. Those who wish to remain on the team to review transfer applicants will have the option if volume allows, which will extend the review until the beginning of April.
