The Project Technician actively participates and leads initiatives on teams that deliver technical solutions that significantly impact the residential roofing business. Owens Corning’s Roofing & Asphalt division is a $4 billion business operating 15 manufacturing locations across the United States. This role contributes to the business’s success by being a critical technical resource leading projects within the Roofing Components portfolio designed to create new products as well as improve the quality and productivity of our roofing operations.

Conduct product testing for the growing Owens Corning Roofing Components business. This role will be based at the Components R&D Center in Granville, OH which includes a Product Testing Laboratory that conducts performance testing and a Pilot Line that runs prototyping trials. This supports the manufacturing and new product development activities for the Roofing and Building Envelope business segments. The work includes running and maintaining pilot line processes and developing and building prototype processes, customer-inspired test methods and demos. This position works closely with the product development, lab & pilot, quality teams and customers.

IMPROVING PRODUCTS THROUGH INNOVATION (90%)
- Develops and validates innovations that will improve components products, features, quality, and productivity driving relationships cross-functionally with scientists and engineers
- Utilizes knowledge of quality metrics to design and lead lab-scale, pilot, and manufacturing trials, including scale up implementation
- Conducts physical testing of products and materials produced during trials to validate trial hypotheses
- Provides statistical analysis of trial data to make data-driven decisions
- Creates equipment prototypes to test new ideas
- Participates in plant trials across North America
- Directly identifies and translates customers needs into feasible test methods, meaningful technical claims, and demos
- Develops new test methods to understand product performance including safety documentation, standard operating procedures, and training others as necessary
- Balances multiple assignments across multiple projects
- Provides technical direction and feedback to others, sharing knowledge throughout the organization
- Supports operation of Roofing pilot lines and other prototype equipment to create prototypes
- Communicate technical results to project teams. Author summary reports on technical findings, when applicable.
PROJECT MANAGEMENT (10%)
- Drive project deliverables, partnering strongly across functions to align and deliver successful outcomes
- Identify, assess, and mitigate risks to effectively manage change across multiple projects
- Collaborate and communicate effectively with people across different functions of the organization
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelors Degree in a technical field OR Associates degree in a technical field with at least 5 years of experience
- Must be proficient in using a computer including MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, Powerpoint)
- Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills
- Ability to repetitively lift objects up to 40 lbs and stand for a large portion of the day
- Travel: Up to 30%. Majority of travel is planned well in advance
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
- 5+ years of experience in a manufacturing or technical laboratory environment
- Experience using statistics to drive data-based decisions and develop customer-inspired test methods is preferred
- Technical knowledge and experience with ASTM roofing testing is preferred
