JOB SUMMARY: The City of Frederick promotes a service-delivery philosophy among City employees to provide responsive service to residents, to be efficient and results-oriented in order to make the City of Frederick a better place to live, work and visit. Under general supervision, the Equipment/Truck Driver Operator II-IV operates a packer-type truck to collect curbside containerized refuse. This position is considered essential personnel and must be able to respond to emergencies outside normal business hours as directed.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
EQUIPMENT/TRUCK DRIVER OPERATOR II $24.69 per hour
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Operates a Rear load refuse collection vehicle with an automatic transmission.
Directs the collection operations of the crews assigned to their vehicle.
Periodically assists the collection crew in their collection efforts.
Performs pre- and post-trip vehicle inspections according to State and Federal laws, and in accordance with City rules and regulations.
Performs routine vehicle maintenance and repair.
Learns and follows designated collection routes.
Transports and off loads waste at a designated site.
Observes legal and defensive driving practices.
Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. REQUIRED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Must have a minimum of one (1) year of employment in the operation of CDL required trucks.
REQUIRED CERTIFICATES AND/OR LICENSES:
Valid Class B CDL license with air brake endorsement in good standing with satisfactory driving record that meets insurability standards of the City’s insurance carrier. The employee must maintain the license for the duration of their employment.
Ability to read a limited number of two- and three-syllable words and to recognize similarities and differences between words and between series of numbers.
Ability to print and speak simple sentences.
Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's.
Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
OTHER DESIRABLES:
One (1) year of experience in a municipality setting.
Class A CDL (Maryland equivalent).
EQUIPMENT/TRUCK DRIVER OPERATOR III $26.54 per hour

Operates an Automated refuse collection vehicle with an automatic transmission.
Performs manual refuse collection as required.
Operates a Rear load refuse collection vehicle to include directing the assigned crew when required.
Performs pre- and post-trip vehicle inspections according to State and Federal laws, and in accordance with City rules and regulations.
Performs routine vehicle maintenance and repair.
Learns and follows designated collection routes.
Transports and off loads waste at a designated site.
