JOB DESCRIPTION
PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Under direction to serve as a teacher in the Child Development Center or preschool; to plan and execute long and short-range activities; and to do related work as required.
DIRECTLY RESPONSIBLE TO: Coordinator of Vocational Education
ASSIGNED RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Plans and executes curriculum through activities to accomplish a variety of goals for children.
2. Develops a positive self image, the senses and perceptual acuity, language, basic concepts, and orient these to problem solving.
3. Carries out small and large group activities daily.
4. Uses snack and meal times as learning activities for language development. Serves food and maintains clean environment.
5. Establishes standards of behavior which will encourage self discipline.
6. Uses positive approach in the direction of children.
7. Plans and establishes learning centers and activities that allow teacher-directed freedom of movement of the children in an orderly manner.
8. Involves children is planning and allows them to make choices in their learning.
9. Provides challenging experiences for children of all abilities and maturity, and establishes standards for the use of material and equipment which involves clean-up and putting materials in order at the end of each activity.
10. Confers with parents professionally as a general practice and as a special need arises; greets parents pleasantly at all times.
11. Maintains a professional attitude toward the entire staff.
12. Gives direction to instructional assistants. Provides for the professional and educational growth of instructional assistants and volunteers.
13. Works responsibly in the absence of supervision.
14. Monitors children for a wide variety of physical/medical/social problems.
15. Acts as role model for children.

PERMIT TEACHER Job Description (cont.)
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Employees occupying positions in this classification may be advanced to a higher level of permit teacher on the salary schedule dependent upon education/training”
1. Permit teacher I position requires a minimum of 30 semester hours of college preparation or equivalent.
2. Permit teacher II position requires a minimum of 90 semester hours of college preparation or equivalent.
3. Permit teacher III position requires a minimum of a BA degree or equivalent.
Other required qualifications:
1. Demonstrated ability in previous teaching or related experience.
2. Possess a Children’s Center Permit or equivalent.
3. Knowledge of child growth and development.
4. Ability to write a weekly plan reflecting appropriate educational goals: establish classroom routine and leave appropriate directions for substitute.
5. Ability to take telephone calls, assume some kitchen duties, collect fees and other routine tasks.
6. Ability to care for regular and special physical needs of children; follow the established procedure for dealing with accidents.
7. Ability to plan and secure materials to accomplish objectives for the next day.
