This position will be assigned as a Crime Analyst for the Sheriff's Department.
The posted salary reflects the 7% increase effective October 1, 2023. An additional 6% salary increase will occur in October 2024. Increased County contributions to medical will be in effect starting January 1, 2024.
Under direction, to plan, organize, supervise, and participate in the administrative support functions of a County Department; to assist Department management staff with preparing and monitoring the Department budget; to perform complex administrative support functions for the County Department; to prepare administrative and budget reports; and to do related work as required.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS This is a specialized administrative and supervisory classification for coordinating and supervising the administrative support functions of a County Department. The incumbent in this class is responsible for the day-to-day supervision of assigned administrative support staff and performing a broad scope of complex administrative and fiscal work for a County Department.
REPORTS TO Various County Department Directors
CLASSIFICATIONS SUPERVISED Accounting and Administrative Support positions.
TYPICAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Sit for extended periods; frequently stand and walk; stool, kneel and crouch to pick up or move objects; normal manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination; physical ability to lift, push, carry, and move objects weighing up to 25 lbs.; corrected hearing and vision to normal range; verbal communication; use of office equipment, including telephone, calculator, copiers, and FAX.
TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS Work is performed in an office environment; continuous contact with other staff and the public.
Example of Duties

Consults with the Department Head in the formulation of administrative policies; directs the fiscal and general business activities of the agency; directs or monitors various grant programs; assists in directing budgetary and fiscal control programs and the preparation of the budgets; plans, directs and supervises office service units such as clerical, purchasing, supplies, central files, accounting and building services; develops and improves programs for the effective utilization of office space, forms and supplies, equipment and other property; makes time and cost studies and makes changes to promote more efficient production; develops production standards and schedules work; prepares and reviews rules and manuals of procedures on administrative matters and assists in directing the instruction of their use; directs the maintenance of property records and passes on the requests for the purchase of major items of new property, or repairs in existing property; confers with representatives of other departments on administrative services problems; coordinates data processing needs; negotiates leases; interviews sales representatives; prepares special administrative reports and dictates correspondence.
Minimum Qualifications
Any combination of training and experience, which would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities, is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required knowledge and abilities would be:
Two years of experience as an Administrative Services Specialist with the County of San Benito.
OR
Three years of responsible experience in a managerial or administrative staff position performing administrative, management, personnel, fiscal or grants work. (Successful completion of the courses required for a Bachelor's Degree in public or business administration or a closely related field may be substituted for up to two years of the required experience).
Knowledge Of/Ability To
Knowledge of: -The principles and practices of public administration and organization applicable to a local public agency. -The principles of budget analysis, formulation and control. -Methods and techniques of accounting procedures. -Work organization. -Simplification and layout. -The principles of personnel administration and supervision. -Statistical methods and methods of graphic presentation used in administrative budget analysis. -Modern office methods, forms and equipment. -The principles of staff development training and employer-employee relations. -The fundamentals of governmental accounting.
Ability to: - Organize and coordinate a management services program within a county department. -Establish accounting procedures. -Evaluate organization. -Administrative and budgetary problems and find workable solutions. -Train, supervise and evaluate the work of subordinates. -Represent the department effectively with other departments and agencies. -Speak and function effectively in group activities. -Write clear and concise correspondence and reports.
Selection Process: All completed applications and supplemental questionnaires will be reviewed. Depending upon the number of applicants who meet the minimum qualifications, the examination process may include a screening committee (pass/fail) and/or an oral examination (100%) which may include a written practical component to determine placement on the eligible list.
